When I first started participating in social media, my goal was to share ideas and network with other individuals.  While that is still one of my primary goals, today I would like to try and do something else that will have a positive impact on the lives of others in need.

We twittered some Saints and Hornets players in hopes some of them might come to the event or retweet to their followers. Maybe even send in a cool auction item. After all the saints will be 1-0 the night of the fundraiser.

August 29 - 31st we will go to Children's of Philadelphia for a whirlwind of appointments all day long on Aug 30th. We will finally find out how bad her HLHS is. HLHS is a syndrome so there are different things that make up the syndrome. So fr all we know is her left ventricle is so small it is basically non-existent (which puts it on the worse side). We hope to find out more when we go. Just trying to find a hotel not on the bedbug registry, lol.

Melanie wrote many state representatives about CHD and HLHS awareness. Dan Claitor responded, "I like your idea about the Congenital Heart Day in Louisiana. I already have that in the works for you and Olivia, your family and others in
the same boat. It's a great idea and something I can actually do."

The American Heart Association directs only $0.30 of every dollar toward research. The remainder goes toward administration, education and fundraising. Of the $0.30 that goes to research only $0.01 goes toward pediatric cardiology for CHD. This year approximately 4,000 babies will not live to see their first birthday because of Congenital Heart Defects. Out of the 40,000 CHD babies born a year 4-8% born with CHD have Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. Source: Children’s Heart Foundation.
