Every student deserves someone in their corner. 💜

For one student, that person was his mom — his “number one support” who helped him understand his dyslexia, advocate for himself, and recognize his strengths.

Her message was simple: “You gotta advocate for yourself.”

Because supporting students with dyslexia isn't just about accommodations. It's about helping them find their voice, understand their strengths, and know how to stand up for themselves.

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month, a time to learn more about dyslexia, challenge misconceptions, and promote greater understanding.

Dyslexia is a neurobiological condition—not a vision problem and not the result of laziness.

Research using brain imaging has shown differences in how individuals with dyslexia process information during reading.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Brennan Chandler to Plain Talk About Literacy and Learning® 2027!

Dr. Chandler is an assistant professor of dyslexia in the Department of Learning Sciences at Georgia State University and brings experience as a classroom teacher, special educator, and reading interventionist to his work at the intersection of literacy research and school-based implementation.

His research focuses on evidence-based reading and writing interventions, including spelling and multisyllabic word reading--with a focus not only on understanding what works for students, but also on what it takes to make those practices coherent, sustainable, and responsive to local needs.

Through his research and partnerships with schools, districts, and educational organizations, Dr. Chandler helps bridge the gap between evidence and implementation.

We’re looking forward to bringing his expertise and perspective to Plain Talk 2027!
