On July 25th, guest speaker Eric Skrmetta, Public Service Commissioner of District 1, spoke to the audience at the Propeller Club Lunch and Learn. Skrmetta, elected to the Louisiana Public Service Commission in 2008, holds one of the five seats on the statewide body that governs utility providers and other public services.

He provided an overview of the role and responsibilities of the Public Service Commission for Louisiana to the Propeller Club members and attendees.

Last week “Louisiana elected officials, federal partners and maritime stakeholders joined the Big River Coalition to celebrate the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) completion of the first two phases of the deepening of the Mississippi River Ship Channel, which presently provides a maximum draft for vessels to the Port of New Orleans at 50-feet.” We would like to congratulate our very own Propeller Club Board Member, Sean Duffy Sr., who played a major role in getting this accomplished. Sean was also recently awarded the C. Alvin Bertel award. The C. Alvin Bertel Award was established in 1967 and is presented each year to an individual who has made significant contributions to the Louisiana port community. Congratulations Sean! The Propeller Club had the honor of hosting Ku’uhaku Park, President of The American Maritime Partnership (AMP) who traveled all the way from Hawaii, on a tour of the Port of New Orleans. AMP’s membership includes vessel owners and operators, shipboard and shoreside workers, shipbuilders and repair yards, equipment manufacturers and vendors, dredging and marine construction contractors, maritime trade associations and national security organizations.
