At the recent Community Listening session, Cortney Bloomer, the Travel Nevada Destination Development manager and the meeting facilitator, mentioned a program in place to help small businesses. This initiative is designed to support rural tourism startups and existing businesses eager to expand their business models.

Prospective entrepreneurs will engage in a FREE 2-day virtual workshop March 7th and 8th, 2026, followed by an opportunity to pitch live at Rural Roundup. The winner of the pitch competition will win $20,000 to help kickstart their venture.

The Travel Nevada 3D Grant Community Listening Session was held on Wednesday at the Virgin River Event Tent, and we’re grateful for the incredible community support, with more than 220 attendees joining us.

Many thanks to Mesquite Entertainment for generously providing the space at no charge, and to Travel Nevada for sponsoring a wonderful meal from Rita’s & Fajitas. We also want to thank Stavros Anthony for attending. As Nevada’s Lieutenant Governor and Chair of the Nevada Tourism Board, his presence meant a great deal to our community.

With a venue this large, there were a few challenges with the QR-code format — the TV screens were a bit small, and we could have used more — but we were still able to gather valuable input and feedback from many Mesquite residents. Cortney Bloomer, Travel Nevada’s Destination Development Manager, did an excellent job guiding the discussion.

What’s next?
On Thursday, our steering committee held a three-hour working session with Travel Nevada to begin shaping what a long-term tourism plan for Mesquite could look like. By April, Travel Nevada will present a long-term tourism plan for our community. The committee will then review the proposal and submit an application identifying the initiatives we want to pursue.

At that point, Travel Nevada will determine how the $1 million grant award will be divided between Mesquite and Goldfield. This process began last year based on concepts both communities submitted, and we’re grateful that Travel Nevada selected our communities to participate in this game-changing opportunity.

Thank you again to everyone who participated and shared their ideas — your input is helping shape Mesquite’s future!

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Lt. Governor Stavros Anthony for a visit to our community. As Chair of the State Tourism Board, he is also joining us tonight for our community listening session. Pictured here with him is George Gault, Chair of MORF. We appreciate Lt. Governor Anthony's time, leadership, and commitment to hearing directly from our community.

A big shoutout to the Mesquite Works STEAM Center for hosting today’s Youth Drone Competition!

This exciting event has welcomed families from Las Vegas, Henderson, and beyond, showcasing how innovative, family-friendly experiences can bring visitors together while inspiring the next generation of creators and problem-solvers.

Events like this highlight the incredible potential for Mesquite to grow as a destination for family-focused tourism — combining education, technology, and fun in ways that benefit both our community and local businesses.

We’re proud to see Mesquite continue to attract new visitors and create memorable experiences for families exploring everything our community has to offer!

We are currently seeking letters of support that would include a brief statement confirming your organization’s support, along with a short description of how increased tourism could positively impact your business or organization.

Your voice helps demonstrate the strength of our community partnership and the value of investing in Mesquite’s future. If you are interested in offering a letter of support, please email us at [email protected] Thank you for helping us continue building a vibrant and thriving destination together!
