What a great interview of MFD Driver/Engineer Nick Alonso which sheds light on the hidden dangers of the job. It’s a powerful reminder of what firefighters and their families endure. Thank you to Alexis Ramirez of CBS News Texas for covering this story during Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month.

We must extend a HUGE thank you to the wonderful staff at Martinez Restaurant - Mesquite for doing everything they could to serve a much larger crowd than we expected at our first-ever Candidate Meet and Greet. They were flexible, patient, gracious and the food was excellent, as always!

Again, thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy lives to bring challenging questions for our candidates and to, hopefully, make new friends and build relationships that break down barriers in our great city.

We were honored for the opportunity to communicate the heart and mission behind our organization, explain our guiding philosophies and endorsement processes as an association, tell a few behind-the-scenes stories, break some bread, and share a few laughs.

We are hopeful and excited about the future of Mesquite! See you at the polls! Early voting begins on Monday, October 20th and ends on Friday, October 31st. Get out and vote!

September is National Firefighter Appreciation Month and we have enjoyed celebrating some of our seasoned firefighters, but we can’t forget the next generation that is training for a long future ahead of service in Mesquite!

“My husband, John, was hired by Mesquite Fire Department last year. Since deciding to become a firefighter, I’ve had the privilege of supporting him as he’s poured everything into this career—all while continuing to be an incredible husband and dad. He went back to school for his EMT, studied endlessly, pushed himself through the academy, and now continues to learn and grow during his probationary period with his crew at Station 5.

Even after 48 hours serving the community, John comes home with admirable energy to play with our son and be my partner at home. His recent first experiences—fighting a structure fire and performing life-saving CPR—left him humbled and grateful for the chance to use what he’s learned to help people when it matters most. Hearing him share that with me affirmed our decision as a family to support his calling with MFD.

He makes our world better every day, and I’m so thankful the Mesquite community gets to experience that part of him too.”

We are grateful for the excellent men and women that are up and coming in the department. Keep your eyes on our social media to stay updated on future application periods. Maybe you can join the Mesquite Fire family soon too.

We are grateful to be comprised of so many incredible firefighters who exemplify a strong family culture that starts at home, spreads to the stations, and serves the city with excellence! Thank you to our fire wives and spouses for helping us show appreciation for our Mesquite firefighters!

“I want to take a moment to celebrate my husband, Captain Lewis Lester.

Brian, as I call him, has dedicated himself to serving the community of Mesquite with a heart full of love for his job and a deep patience for the people he helps. He has always believed that when you help someone, you should do it with the same care and compassion as if they were your own family. That guiding belief has made him not only a trusted firefighter, but also a true servant leader.

As a captain, he leads with strength, humility, and a genuine desire to see his team grow. He takes pride in training and mentoring his firefighters, always encouraging them to be their best—for themselves, for each other, and for the community.

But beyond the uniform and the firehouse, Brian is an incredible husband and an amazing dad. His dedication to us at home is just as strong as the dedication he shows at work. We are so proud of the man he is—courageous, kind, and selfless.

Today and every day, I celebrate you, Captain Lester. Thank you for all that you do, for the lives you touch, and for the love you pour into both your career and our family. We love you!”
