The Mesquite Police Santa Cop Toy Program is an annual event that began over 40 years ago. In 1975, Mesquite Police Officer Reese Bullard was assigned to a low-income apartment complex and knew of several families that were unable to provide Christmas gifts for their ch

ildren. Moved with compassion, he began a way for law enforcement to assist those families in need and vulnerable in their own community. This officer made arrangements for these families to receive Christmas gifts and each year the need grew. It has continued to grow each year. Last year the Santa Cop Program provided gifts for over 1,000 children from over 380 different families. The mission and purpose of the Santa Cop Toy Program is to provide assistance during the Christmas season to disadvantaged children and families in Mesquite and the surrounding communities served by the Mesquite Independent School District (MISD). Patrol officers and MISD school counselors select the disadvantaged families. Once they have been selected, they attend a special Christmas holiday presentation involving Mesquite police officers, MISD school district personnel, Citizens Police Academy volunteers, students, and many more community volunteers. This festive event provides a generous amount of age-appropriate and donated toys to give to these needy children.

🏍️⚠️ Motorcycle Safety Reminder – Lane Splitting is Illegal in Texas ⚠️🏍️

While it may seem like a way to move through traffic, lane splitting is extremely dangerous for both riders and drivers.

What is lane splitting-this is a term often referring to motorcycles driving between vehicles during heavy traffic conditions or at stop lights.

Why Lane Splitting is Dangerous:
• Drivers are not expecting a motorcycle between lanes.
• Limited space increases the risk of sideswipe crashes.
• Sudden lane changes by vehicles can lead to serious collisions.
• Reduced reaction time for both riders and drivers.
• Higher risk of severe injury due to lack of protection.

Ride Safe Tips:
• Stay in a single lane and follow traffic laws.
• Maintain a safe following distance.
• Make yourself visible — use lights and wear bright gear.
• Always ride defensively and stay alert.

Your safety — and the safety of others — depends on responsible riding.

Ride smart. Ride safe.

Now that the Lone Star Rally is over, it’s time to look forward to the holidays. And the best part of the holidays are the TOY RUNS!!!
Carey Dean and the crew at the 106.9 The Ranch radio station put on a great ride every year.
We start in downtown Corsicana and then go out to the country for a scenic ride led by the Bearded One himself (Carey, not Santa) and then back to town for food, music, and fellowship!
