Troop 88

Troop 88 Troop 88 is an elite scout troop, located in Auburn Twp PA. We were officially chartered in 1986 and have been proudly serving Wyoming and Susquehanna CO.

As of December 31, 2018 Troop 88 of Auburn Twp. will officially close its doors. Due to not having enough volunteers and youth participating in our program, the troop committee has made the decision to fold the troop. It has been a great run over the past 30 years, serving the Auburn, and Meshoppen areas. We have had many great scouts come through our program, some even earning the rank of Eagle Scout. For the few scouts remaining in our program Troop 154 from Elk Lake has opened their doors to the troop. We would like to personally like to thank them for doing this. If you have any questions relating to the scouting program in your area, you can give Baden Powell Council a call at any time. Thank you to the community for your years of support, hopefully one day we can restart a troop in this area once more.

Well the boys are having a wet time so far, this week. Yet the weather looks like it will get a bit dryer, the next two days.

It has been a great honor for the boys to carry the 20 ft by 30ft American Flag, once again in the Montrose Memorial Day Parade. We would like to thank troop 92 with assisting us in carrying the flag this year.
The troop has also had a very busy this holiday weekend trying to play catch up on our community service projects. One of our biggest projects of the year is completed in May, which is replacing the flags at the graves of America's fallen heroes. This year we worked with the Black Walnut American Legion and completed the following Cemeteries: Spring Hill, Ghost Hill, Lacey Street, North Flat, Scott Dale Rd, St Anthony's, Vaughn's, Overfield, and St. Joachim We would also like to thank the Biblical Baptist Church of Meshoppen, for providing transportation. It is a true honor to past down the tradition of replacing the flags to the younger generation of scouts and to teach them that Memorial Day isn't really all about bbq. It's about honoring the lives of the fallen who have kept us free.

Congratulations to the four boys that braved the cold, this weekend. For the second year in a row Troop 88 has taken 1st place at the Delahanna District Camporee. This year we had Troop 81 out of Susquehanna tag along with us, and as a body the boys decided that Troop 81 could take the trophy home with them since they will be continuing their program next year. Due to recent low youth participation and having one adult leader willing to donate their time, this will most likely be our last year participating in the District's Winter Camporee.
Scouts in attendance: Jake Werle, Jeff Werle, Chris C**a, and Nate Sheldon

A Day of Honoring the Fallen.
Over the past two week Troop 88 was honored to help the local American Legion Post 510, and the Montrose VFW Post 5642. Within these two weeks we traveled to multiple cemeteries including some of the following to replace the flags of our fallen soldiers. Spring Hill, Ghost Hill, Lacey Street, North Flat, Scott Dale Rd, St Anthony's, Vaughn's, Overfield, St. Joachim, and Montrose Cemeteries respectively. The Troop would like to express our gratitude to the Legion, and the VFW post for inviting us out to help replace the flags. We would also like to thank the Biblical Baptist Church, for providing transportation, on our first weekend, and Troop 92 from Montrose for helping us complete the Montrose Cemetery. Overall it has been an honor to do this for the past couple of years. It teaches the kids that Memorial Day isn't about cookouts, and having fun. It's about remembering the ones that we have lost and who have not come home. While the number of kids we have come out falls each year, and the members of the of our local American Legion and VFW grow older, we hope the American people take time and keep this tradition alive and well.
