💙Ferrari and Morty💙
Our hearts are so full at AZCR❤️🐾
Morty is such a calm, but very nervous pup at the moment…there isn’t a mean bone in his body. He’s safe with Ferrari now and finally relaxing. 🥰🐶
I wish I had caught their reunion on video! Ferrari got up, went straight to the kennel where his brother was, and wagged his little tail. 🐾❤️ Morty gave him a sweet kiss through the door. 🥹💕 You can just see how much they missed each other!
They’re happy, safe, and relaxing together now. 💙🐶🐶💙

PS- Ferrari is doing great! Just hates taking meds 🤣

Evaluation Comments (Observations from our staff and volunteers)

8/22/2026
Dog was sleeping on approach, did not wake when handler used verbal cues. Handler lightly tapped on bottom of kennel, dog woke, looked at handler, stood quickly and widened eyes, retreated away. Trembled hard, avoided eye contact. Dog stood with rounded posture in back corner, head down. Handler was able to place leash. When handler attempted to place blanket, dog darted away, then forward as if to jump out of kennel. Handler kept door mostly closed, dog was stress panting, pacing in kennel. Handler was able to secure blanket. When being lifted, dog began thrashing hard under blanket, panting hard, groaning. Dog appeared to be hyperventilating; handler pulled blanket away from dog's head. Dog had mouth open wide, lip scrunched up, panting hard and salivating. Dog was very tense, continued to squirm and groan, cry out while being carried to M&G room. Handler gently placed dog on floor, removed blanket. Dog whined and retreated quickly to corner of room. Sat with hunched posture, feet tucked in, head down and turned away, would not make any eye contact with handler or look in their direction. No interest in treats or verbal coaxing. Dog turned to corner, panting. Handler was able to gently scratch dog on top of head, dog had no reaction, remained stiff and panting. Handler sat nearby, tried speaking softly, coaxing dog. Dog looked over shoulder, retreated farther away from handler, underneath chair. Handler gave dog a few more minutes but dog remained frozen, turned away, feet tucked in. Handler stood, slowly moved closer with blanket, dog began scurrying away. Handler retrieved leash, dog appeared to begin panicking, panting hard and groaning, then yelping, trying to get out of leash, urinated. Handler draped blanket, able to pick dog up. Dog cried, groaned, thrashed under blanket. Handler made sure dog's face and head were uncovered once being carried. Dog had commisure pulled back, salivating, very tense. Handler removed leash by hand, placed dog into kennel. Dog ran to back of kennel, stood with back arched, head pointed down, breathing hard, saliva gathered at corners of mouth. Handler watched dog for a few moments, walked away once dog appeared to settle.

Please welcome Ferrari to AZCR! His Foster picked him up from County and immediately brought him to our vet. The Vet is concerned that the lesion on his re**um is cancer but x-ray showed that there was no cancer visible within his body. We plan to bring him back on Thursday for a dental, neuter, cyst and Mass removal. We will send the mass to pathology to get a better understanding of what he has going on. He is also Crypt Orchid which is a more invasive and expensive neuter.

Uncle Junior was ALMOST ready to head to his forever home when he suddenly started limping. His foster brought him to our vet, and while taking X-rays of his leg, they made an unexpected discovery—a rock in his belly! 😳
(The leg is fine 🙂)

The vet tried to induce vomiting, but the rock wouldn’t budge, so Uncle Junior needed surgery to have it removed. Just one more unexpected hurdle for this sweet boy! ❤️🐾

Miss Mimi Mae went to the vet Thursday for a checkup. She appears to be in great health, other than bad teeth. She is on a course of antibiotics to get rid of the infection at her gum line, and we will be scheduling her dental soon. (Which we'll also get blood work prior, to confirm all is good.) Once her dental is done, she will be ready to start accepting applications for her forever home.

08/22/2026

Mad Max went to his monthly groom with his "auntie" Becky yesterday. He is getting so much better...he even went 100% without the crate. He rode in the car seat both ways, AND walked on leash in and out, as well as outside of the "compound" gates, just down to the next house over for his first time.
He had some help from his foster brother AZCR Alumni- Tonka (who had to go to the vet after we dropped him at Becky Lindsay 's).
This little dude is a BEHAVIORAL foster, available for adoption but needs a very savvy adopter, who will love him for all of his quirks, and not expect him to be a lap dog. He enjoys pets, but from a distance, and being picked up or restrained is a challenge & a fight. So vet visits, or attempts at taking for walks or for grooming, will not be easy, or advised to do so until he is fully comfortable with you. If you attempt this too soon, you WILL get A. Dizzy running in circles trying to catch him, and B. Bitten IF you do catch him, and aren't super careful.
He will also need a larger pack, with other small dogs that are confident.
If you love the "project dogs" and find Max to be as adorably handsome as I do (even when he is being a jerk, lol)...hit me up with an application at www.azchihuahuarescue.org
