We're saddened to learn of the passing of Colonel Bruce Crandall, Army aviator and Medal of Honor recipient.

While serving as a Huey pilot with A Co, 229th Assault Helicopter Bn, 1st Cav, then-Major Crandall repeatedly flew into LZ X-Ray under heavy enemy fire to deliver ammunition to the Cav troops in heavy contact with NVA Regulars and to recover the wounded. For his actions that day, Crandall received the Distinguished Service Cross, which was upgraded to a Medal of Honor in 2007 under President George W. Bush.

Crandall spent most of his later years in Arizona, working right here in Mesa with the Public Works Department. Back in 2022, he was the Grand Marshall of Mesa's Veterans Day Parade where this photo was taken with Huey 563, our static-display UH-1M, in the background.

As we honor America's fallen today, please take a moment to comment with the name of a solider, sailor, Marine, airman, or Coast Guardsman who gave their life in defense of our nation.

May they never be forgotten.
