💥 RUGBY IN ARIZONA STARTS WITH A BANG. 💥

What a way to kick off the fall season — and what better two teams to get us started.

Every October, GCU and Arizona meet in the annual Sophomore/Freshman Showdown, giving the next wave of Arizona college rugby players their first real chance to make a statement.

Saturday, in front of one of the largest crowds I’ve ever seen at a fall rugby game in Arizona, the athletes showed up and entertained.

We saw plenty of new faces, some seriously promising talent, big hits, big runs, and two programs eager to show what the next generation looks like.

RUGBY IS BACK.

The best time you will have with your new best friends.

GCU sets the tone for what is shaping up to be a competitive fall season.

The Lopes are wasting no time building on a successful spring. With a strong incoming class of recruits, GCU looks bigger, stronger, and faster than ever.

Coach Sean O’Leary’s side looks focused, hungry, and ready to hit — and we won’t have to wait long to see them in action.

This Saturday, GCU hosts its first game of the fall against none other than cross-state rival University of Arizona in the annual Freshman/Sophomore Showdown.

Young talent. Rivalry rugby. A first look at what the program is building for the season ahead.

It’s going to be fun.

It’s rugby time.

Fall rugby is officially back in Arizona.

What better way to kick off the season than visiting my local youth rugby club — one of the strongest youth development programs in the country.

Coach Ray Terrel and his staff put together a great night of games, drills, competition, and plenty of fun. It was exactly what a return to rugby practice should feel like.

It was great seeing some familiar faces, watching new players get involved, and seeing the energy around the club as another season gets underway.
