Unfortunately I was not able to be at the crowning ceremony for Ms. Wheelchair Arizona 2025. Below ⬇️ was my farewell speech 🎤 that I hope inspires others to compete in the future.
Distinguished guests, fellow contestants, friends, and family,
As I stand before you today to bid farewell as Ms. Wheelchair Arizona, my heart is filled with gratitude and hope. This past year has been an extraordinary journey that has transformed not only my life but has hopefully touched the lives of countless others in our community.
When I first accepted this crown, I made a promise – a promise to be a voice for those who sometimes go unheard, to be a beacon of change, and to demonstrate that our wheelchairs are not limitations but launching pads for greatness. Looking back, every moment spent fulfilling this role has reinforced that conviction.
Throughout this year, I've had the privilege of visiting schools, speaking at community events, and advocating for improved safety in our cities. I've worked alongside dedicated individuals who tirelessly push for positive change in our society. And most importantly, I've witnessed the incredible strength and resilience of our disability community.
To my successor: You are about to embark on an incredible journey. Remember that this crown represents more than just a title – it's a platform for change, a symbol of hope, and a reminder that disability does not define us; it is merely one part of our beautiful, complex stories. Use your voice boldly, your presence purposefully, and your influence wisely.
To those who have supported me throughout this journey – my family, friends, the pageant organization, and the entire disability community – thank you. Your unwavering support has given me the strength to carry this responsibility with pride and purpose.
As I pass on this crown, I'm not saying goodbye to our cause. Instead, I'm making a new commitment – to continue being an advocate, a friend, and a voice for our community. Because while my reign may be ending, our work towards a more inclusive and accessible world continues.
Never underestimate the power of your story and your ability to create change. Your wheelchair is not just a means of mobility; it's a throne from which you can reign and make a difference in countless lives.
I leave this role with a full heart, knowing that the future of Ms. Wheelchair Arizona is bright, and our community's voice grows stronger with each passing year. Thank you for allowing me to serve, to learn, and to grow. Together, we will continue to roll forward, breaking barriers and building bridges for generations to come.
With eternal gratitude and hope, Sharon Malone, Ms. Wheelchair Arizona 2024.
