In January 2026, Energy Fuels sent the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality a report on the elemental composition of the mining site’s monitoring well water. The report documented an increased presence of arsenic.

Public opposition to the mine is rising, following the publication of the mine’s well reports which clearly document rising levels of arsenic in the water.

The Legacy Restoration Fund has funded maintenance and repairs across public lands in Arizona. Some of these public lands are lesser known hidden gems while others are national treasures.

Let’s explore areas supported by the LRF in southern and central Arizona.

Before it expired, the Legacy Restoration Fund supported projects across Arizona's public lands. Congress is considering reauthorizing this fund.

The Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument sits along the U.S.-Mexican border in southern Arizona. It is home to thousands of animals, including native Arizonan species like the endangered Sonoran Pronghorns, Bighorn Sheep, and Long-Nosed Bats. Travels might encounter this native fauna and flora on sprawling hikes with views of the lush valley, or settled in the cacti around campsites (see slide 3). The National Monument has something for every wildlife enthusiast.

In order to keep this recreation area open to the people and animals that rely on it, repairs are necessary. Such repairs could be funded by the America the Beautiful Act, a bill on the brink of passage in congress. Call your representatives and tell thm to support this bill.

From our friends at DarkSky International:

"From the ancient dwellings of Chaco Canyon to the remote wilderness of the Boundary Waters, some of America’s most protected landscapes are facing renewed development pressures just beyond their borders. As mining and drilling proposals move forward near these certified International Dark Sky Places, another increasingly rare natural resource must also be considered: the night itself."

As everyone starts to refresh beds, plant containers, and dream up backyard projects, it is the perfect time to ask a new question.
