It is with a heavy heart that the IAFF Local I-60 share with you the passing of a colleague from American Medical Response Mississippi Operation, Michael Collums. Michael, a MedStat American Medical Response Emergency Medical Technician based in Chickasaw County, Mississippi, was responding to an emergency call with his partner, Raymond Reed, Tuesday, Feb. 21 when the cab of an 18-wheeler collided with their ambulance. Michael was pronounced dead on the scene, and Raymond sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

Michael was a devoted husband and father. He was also a skilled welder and a compassionate EMT who dedicated his life to caring for others. His co-workers describe him as an exemplary EMS provider, friend and father, and say they will miss his kind spirit.

Please keep our colleagues with MedStat American Medical Response Mississippi in your thoughts and prayers.

The IAFF Local I-60 sends our thoughts and prayers to our brothers and sisters of the United Phoenix Firefighters who lost Phoenix Fire Captain Crystal Rezzonico who passed away last night from injuries sustained in a line of duty traffic accident.

United Phoenix Firefighters LODD Notification:

It is with deep sorrow we announce the tragic passing of Phoenix Fire Captain Crystal Rezzonico who died on Feburary 18, 2017 as a result of injuries she sustained from an on-duty traffic accident on August 10th, 2009.

As Captain Rezzonico was responding to a reported structure fire, an inattentive driver traveling at a high rate of speed struck the Fire Engine she was traveling in. The impact of the collision resulted in Captain Rezzonico being ejected from the truck onto the street. A total of eight vehicles were involved in the collision and 14 people were injured

Captain Rezzonico’s injuries were prolific and eminently fatal: A traumatic brain injury, two broken legs and two broken shoulders were just some of the challenges she faced as a result of the accident. She spent two weeks in a coma, underwent multiple surgeries (including 5 brain surgeries) and endured 8 grueling weeks of Neurological rehab just to be able to walk and talk again.

Over the course of the next seven years, Captain Rezzonico would fight a heroic and monumental battle of survival to overcome the demons that would relentlessly haunt her from that fateful day. Her will was unstoppable, her courage undaunted as she clawed her way back, day by day from what were seemingly insurmountable odds. At one point she was even able to don her gear once again and return to one of her greatest passions: being a Firefighter.

The complications from her extensive injures were sadly merciless, presenting challenge after challenge despite her amazing display of courage and strength. Notwithstanding Captain Rezzonico’s super-human efforts, the fallout from her injuries would ultimately prevail as she passed peacefully last night in the presence of her many beloved friends and family.

Captain Rezzonico’s death will be memorialized by the Phoenix Fire Department and City of Phoenix as a Line of Duty Death with full honors of which the details are still pending. Her loss brings us great pain but also great peace to know that our beloved sister and her family suffer no more. She will be forever held in the hearts of our membership and her legacy shall serve as inspiration to continue our mission of protecting the public, even to our own demise.

Rest in Peace Captain Crystal Rezzonico, you are now home and will be greatly missed.

Please share. The IAFF Local I-60 has the names of 5 of our emergency medical services professionals who were killed in the line of duty etched into the memorial. Please help support the memorial by making a small contribution. Thank you.

WE NEED YOUR HELP.

Two years ago, we broke ground on the Arizona Fallen Firefighter Memorial. Today, $1.6 million in contributions later, this moving site is a reality. Now we are in the last stages of paying off this enormous project.

If we can raise the final necessary dollars, we will be able to add to the memorial the names of several firefighters who have lost their lives in recent years.

EVERY CONTRIBUTION HELPS.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS POST OR SHARE IT WITH YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY. If you want to make a donation of any amount, please visit:

It's time to check in with your brothers and sisters within public safety.

Su***de Warning Signs:
•Appearing depressed or sad most of the time.(Untreated depression is the number one cause for su***de.
•Talking or writing about death or su***de.
•Withdrawing from family and friends.
•Feeling hopeless.
•Feeling helpless.
•Feeling strong anger or rage.
•Feeling trapped -- like there is no way out of a situation.
•Experiencing dramatic mood changes.
•Abusing drugs or alcohol.
•Exhibiting a change in personality.
•Acting impulsively.

•Giving away prized possessions.

It should be noted that some people who die by su***de do not show any su***de warning signs.
But about 75 percent of those who die by su***de do exhibit some su***de warning signs, so we need to be aware of what the su***de warning signs are and try to spot them in people. If we do see someone exhibiting su***de warning signs, we need to do everything that we can to help them.
If you or someone you know exhibits several of the su***de warning signs listed above, immediate action is required. Always take su***de warning signs seriously.

If You Think Someone Is Considering Su***de:
•Trust your instincts that the person may be in trouble
•Talk with the person about your concerns. Communication needs to include LISTENING
•Ask direct questions without being judgmental. Determine if the person has a specific plan to carry out the su***de. The more detailed the plan, the greater the risk
•Get professional help, even if the person resists
•Do not leave the person alone
•Do not swear to secrecy
•Do not act shocked or judgmental
•Do not counsel the person yourself

If it is an emergency, call 911.
