Summer is officially in full swing, and what better way to kick it off than with our annual Summer Pool Party!

Last Saturday, youth, caregivers, and families came together for an evening of swimming, splashing, music, pizza, refreshments, and—most importantly—community.

This event is always one of our favorites because it gives everyone an opportunity to relax, laugh, connect, and simply enjoy time together. Moments like these remind us how important community and belonging are for the families we serve.

If you missed this year's pool party, don't worry—we'd love to see you at one of the many events we have planned throughout the year!

Recently, Foster Arizona Founder & CEO, Kimberly Vehon, had the opportunity to write an Op-Ed for AZCentral titled “Normalizing ma*****na use harms foster kids’ mental health.” In it, she explores research and real-life experiences showing that for some—especially youth and young adults who have experienced foster care—ma*****na use can trigger deeper physical and mental health challenges.

“At first, it can feel like a relief—a way to quiet anxiety or cope with overwhelming experiences. But over time, we often see the opposite. We see young adults struggle with emotional regulation, lose motivation, disconnect from support systems, and find themselves in unsafe situations. We see progress stall—not because they lack potential, but because they are trying to heal while relying on a substance that can work against that healing.”

Kimberly also dives deeper into this conversation in Episode 231 of the Fostering Voices Podcast. You can listen at linktr.ee/fosteringvoices.

May is Foster Care Awareness Month. Right now, there are over 7,130 youth in Arizona’s DCS care—and many more who still need support, advocacy, resources, and a community willing to walk alongside them every step of the way.

If you have a heart for foster care and feel called to make a difference in the life of a child, we would love to come alongside you and help you take the first step on that journey.

Today, we pause.

We remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country—and the families who carry that loss every day.

At Foster Arizona, we’re especially mindful that freedom isn’t free. It’s built on sacrifice, courage, and a deep love for others. Those same values show up in the lives of the children and families we serve—resilience, hope, and the power of community.

As we gather with loved ones today, may we hold space for remembrance, gratitude, and reflection.

We remember. We honor. We don’t forget.

𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂.
You can’t pour into others if your physical, emotional, and mental tank is running on empty.

In this clip from a recent Foster Cooperative training, Estefana Johnson puts her own unique spin on this concept.

If you’re walking through a tough season, give yourself grace. Reach out to someone you trust if you need to talk. And if you’re in crisis or feel like you can’t keep going, please call or text 988.

The world is better with you in it—and there are people, even if you haven’t met them yet, who will be grateful they got to experience your light.

Congratulations Class of 2026!

The classroom prepared you and the world is now waiting for you. Go and be the difference makers that you were created to be. The world is a better place because you all are in it.

Tonight…celebrate, laugh, make memories and most importantly, Be Safe!

We’re Proud of You All!

“Community isn’t just about being together—it’s about doing life together.”

According to the U.S. Public Health Service, people who report a weak sense of community are nearly 𝟱𝘅 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝘆 to experience poor mental health. Even more sobering—social disconnection carries a mortality risk comparable to 𝘀𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟱 𝗰𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗱𝗮𝘆.

This month, let’s be intentional.
Reach out. Check in. Show up.

With our family.
With our friends.
With our neighbors.
With our community.

In this clip from Episode 228 of the Fostering Voices Podcast: Empowering Vulnerable Youth in Uncertain Times, Kim Vehon shares a powerful truth: too many young adults are navigating life without a single person they can rely on when things get hard.

You don’t have to be everything—but you can be someone.

The truth is, life can feel overwhelming for all of us at times. But for children and young adults who have experienced foster care, those feelings are often intensified by trauma and other adverse childhood experiences.

No one is meant to navigate that alone.

As a community—and especially as foster and adoptive families—we have the opportunity to stand beside the youth in our care, to listen, to learn, and to help connect them with the support they need.

This week, we’re leaning into the realities our kids face every day. Together, we can build a better tomorrow by showing up, staying present, and continuing to educate ourselves today.

A 450% increase… that has to be a good thing, right?! 👀

A new episode of the Fostering Voices Podcast is out now, and this week we’re tackling the uncomfortable conversation around ma*****na use and the impact it’s having on youth and young adults.

Is it helping? Is it harming? What are we missing in the conversation?

Join us as we take a deeper look and open the door for honest discussion. Let’s have a conversation. Listen at linktr.ee/fosteringvoices
