Wow! You guys were awesome! From all reports, it was a great On Target Weekend. I love the reports from Teams that ran into roadblocks, but quickly found other ways to accomplish their goal. Mt. Ord road was closed because of a fire, so I heard at least one Team went mobile. A team from Colcord Mountain was asked to move and they found a place on the rim to signal from. It was a little smoky on the valleys, but the peaks appeared to be clear and plenty of signals sent. It reminds me of the quote from Vaughn J. Featherstone: “The coward never starts, the weak die on the way, only the strong come through”.
Here are a few more items that I heard that excite me for this years On Target:
• I have a report of one Team having 25 contacts! That is nearly 30% of all the Team participating!
• At least one Team signaled nearly 100 miles. Some may have been further and I haven’t heard they yet!
• One Team had a visit from a Maricopa County Sheriff’s helicopter
• The radio activity was high and Chuck did a great job keeping things moving
So now a couple of requests….
First, i have uploaded an after action report to our page. Please take some time and fill it out as much as possible. Then return it to me or take it to Huddle and give it to Bob Church or an ADC. They will get it to me. In the Mesa District, this is one of the steps to qualify for the Gold Pass at the Mogollon Rendezvous.
Second, if you have photos your activity and would like to share them, please send them to me or post them on our page. We’ll use them to help promote the activity and share them with other Varsity Scouts.
Thank you again for all your efforts!
