West Side-Clark Addition Historic Neighborhood Mesa AZ

West Side-Clark Addition Historic Neighborhood Mesa AZ The West Side-Clark Addition is located just west of downtown Mesa and is on the National Historic Registry. Remodeling?

The neighborhood is now applying for local historic status. The West Side-Clark Addition Historic District is located immediately west of the original townsite of Mesa, Arizona. The general boundaries are west of Country Club to Date and from the north side of 2nd Place to the south side of Pepper Place. The district consists of four contributing single-family residential subdivisions platted betw

een 1930 and 1947, and a single post-historic, subdivision platted in 1973. The district takes its name from the West Side Addition, the earliest subdivision platted in the neighborhood, and form the Clark family that was associated with the establishment of three of the four subdivisions. The West Side-Clark Addition Historic District is eligible for listing on the National Register at a local level under Criterion “A” for its association with community planning and development in Mesa. The West Side-Clark Addition Historic District is an early example of the process of suburbanization that changed Mesa from an early twentieth-century agricultural settlement to one of Arizona's larger, sprawling twenty-first-century cities. Specific development trends in these four historic subdivisions govern the appearance of the West Side-Clark Addition Historic District. The pre-World War II subdivisions in the northern part of the district contain the oldest houses. These represent the first westward leap beyond the edge of the Mesa townsite. The two later subdivisions, platted after the end of World War II, represents the era of rapid construction and population expansion that characterized Mesa's west side after the War. We hope to give visitors the full experience of all the love and beauty that has gone into these walls for over a decade. Food and the best possible weather will only add to the experience! The exhibit will remain up through March 17 by appointment.

Wow! You should drop everything and read this article by Lynn Marie in Southwest Contemporary. The article sets forth the current situation with the arts in Arizona: dire (in terms of funding) but with bright spots (a lively AZ art scene with talented and innovative artists; an exciting new Executive Director at the AZ Commission on the Arts.)

(Plus — The first photo in the article is at The Millet House! Congrats to Killian Cinnamon!)

Artist Christina You-sun Park becomes director of Arizona Commission on the Arts—just as its state funding is slashed by sixty percent.

The Warrior Cats books went quickly, to a sweet grandma who will be reading them aloud to her grand! Even children who prefer graphic novels still love to be read to. Speaking of graphic novels, observe! Two Dog Man books! A dog may even have taken a bite of one of them. Hey and we have grownup books too! Top shelf!

Faces of Mesa Podcast is on Spotify as of yesterday! Theresa Schlechty and I were both interviewed. So fun. I do sound terrified in the beginning of my session! Thank you, Nick and Gladys, for launch party support. Grateful to Molly and Danica Marlin and Tomas for the project and for the launch party/great food at The Nile Coffee Shop. (Jalapeño-honey-covered nuts were my personal favorites!)
