Great article by Michael Murphy at the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget and the FixUs project.*

I hope during this holiday season we can find ways to demonstrate love towards our neighbors - Merry Christmas.

Strengthening democracy can be as simple as changing how people talk to each other and what they choose to read and share on social media.

"A functioning democracy thrives on debate between those with opposing views."
RIP Senator Dole

Written weeks before his death, the former senator reflects on his Kansas roots, his sacrifices, bipartisan achievements and rancor in politics today.

I wanted to make sure you knew about the exclusive Zoom event with other FixUS members happening tomorrow about our new report "Why is Governing No Longer Good Politics? Reflections from a Thousand Years of Public Service".

The report contains testimonials from officials of both parties who served in American government throughout the past half-century and covers topics like structural incentives in the electoral system, the toxic media environment, and the shifting roles and responsibilities of public servants. If you haven’t already seen the report, I encourage you to do so. I’m sure that, like me, you will find its contents to be very insightful.

Addressing our National debt so we can ensure our entitlement programs remain solvent for future generations is one of the primary concerns of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (CRFB) - and establishing a dialogue so we can have these tough conversations is why FixUs exists in the first place.

I think Mitch Daniels strikes the right tone and he is a voice of reason on this subject, so I highly recommend reading this article.

It’s too late to preserve Social Security and Medicare in their current forms. Mitigating harm is the best we can hope for.

FixUs - Arizona

FixUS is a group of Americans united in shared concern over the divided state of our country. We believe that healing our divisions is our highest national priority and is essential to preparing our nation to face the defining challenges of the 21st century. FixUS – Arizona is our chapter local to the Grand Canyon State, which is being spearheaded by TJ Lindberg.

FixUS arose as a project of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget because it has become increasingly clear that we are unlikely to fix the debt until we address the underlying issues that are dividing the country and paralyzing our political system. The environment most conducive to enacting a debt deal—one that focuses on policy over politics, the long-term over the immediate, and a willingness to compromise and make hard choices- does not currently exist.
