The DeLong Family of Mertzon started out in the land that would become Tom Green County, G.W. DeLong Sr. and his wife Sylvania Williams Delong moved to what would become Tom Green county in 1865 the year after Richard Tankersley moved there. The DeLongs branched out to Eldorado and Irion County. with the base of them living in Christoval where they built the dam and have their own cemetery the DeLong Cemetery, A dedicated Historical Cemetery with a Historical Marker. The George Washington DeLong Family moved to Mertzon and raised their family there. there are still descendants of them in Mertzon. San Angelo was several of the DeLongs living there. The Tankersley's, Noelkes, and DeLongs are still friends after all these years sharing Pioneer status in their Communities and the love of History. I was honored to be a invited to the Dedication of the Marker for the R.F. Tankersley near Wall and was allowed to visit the Tankersley Cemetery and home stead near Tankersley.

Lonnie McFall took over the newspaper in Mertzon and called it the Mertzon Star. you can see a sample of it in the Museum. He married Debbie Clark and they worked side my side. my Dad James DeLong was a type setter for his Uncle Lonnie while he was in school. Lonnie was born in Comanche then moved with his parents to Sherwood as his dad James was a traveling Preacher then then moved to Mertzon. Lonnie and Debbie had no children. Debbie's sister Reva married into the DeLong Family and is buried in the DeLong Cemetery in Christoval. Debbie and Lonnie are buried in the Mertzon Cemetery behind his parents.
