Florida French Connection

Florida French Connection Florida French Connection Fan and Information page Florida French Connection was officially formed on Sunday, April 4, 1993.

Although our group was formulated by some "frenchies" longing to preserve our rich cultural heritage and to extend our warm, friendly island spirits to each other, anyone who is connected to the islands in anyway, is very welcome to join our club. The name of the club remains "French" as the idea originated with the Frenchies! This issue has been discussed and approved by our officers. However, an

yone with a love for our beautiful islands is welcome to join us. I am constantly amazed at how many of us, friends and relatives live just a few miles from each other. Each year we have so many mini-family reunions at our functions that it just adds to the warmth and excitement of the weekend. We consider each and everyone of you as part of our extended family and look forward to an exciting future for our "island club" our own little piece of paradise away from home.

The Eiffel Tower was inaugurated on March 31, 1889, which means the Iron Lady turns 137 years old today. It was originally designed for the 1889 World's Fair in Paris as a showcase of French innovation. When it was completed, it was the tallest building in the world.

A few weeks later, when the fair opened, crowds lined up to climb it. Nearly 30,000 people visited in the first week alone, and the tower was a raging success during the 6 months of the fair.

Despite its success, the tower was only meant to stand for 20 years. Its role in scientific research, and ultimately its use as a radio antenna, saved it from demolition. What began as a temporary structure became the defining landmark of Paris and one of the most beloved monuments in the world.

Long before “shop local” was a slogan, the Virgin Islands Cooperative was doing the work. 🧺

Established in 1931, this waterfront building became a vital marketplace for island artisans—bringing together straw work, baskets, hats, embroidery, rugs, and other handmade goods created by local craftspeople.

Located near Emancipation Garden and the old federal district court, the Cooperative wasn’t just a shop for tourists—it was an economic lifeline.

A quiet but powerful chapter in the cultural and economic history of St. Thomas.

This is an ai-colored image of a black and white photo taken in front of the building.

This photo shows a 𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗿𝗼𝗶𝘀 (King’s cake), a traditional pastry eaten in France every year at the beginning of January. It is linked to Epiphany, a holiday that celebrates the visit of the Three Kings.

The cake is usually made with puff pastry and filled with frangipane, a soft almond cream. What makes it special is what you cannot see. Inside the cake, the baker hides a small figurine called a fève. When the cake is shared, whoever finds the figurine in their slice becomes King or Queen for the day and wears the paper crown placed on top of the cake.

There is a strict rule when cutting it. The youngest person sits under the table and decides who gets each slice, to keep things fair. Today, most bakeries sell hundreds of these cakes, and many families eat more than one during the season.
