EAA chapter 724 EAA Chapter 724 is the Merritt Island Chapter. Chapter gatherings are the second Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM. Young Eagles twice a year.

Join us this Wednesday May 13th for our regular gathering. Don’t miss this great Double Header event! Featuring Dr. Anthony Atwood, author of “State of War, A History of World War II in Florida” his engaging historical narrative is lucid, lively and weaves the broad patterns and events together. Dr. Atwood is driving up from Miami to give his presentation & hold a book signing.
~The popularity of gyroplanes continues to rise with our opener in our parking lot at 6:30. Welcome Pilot Andrey Vegger & his gyrocopter on display for all to see and touch. Andrey will give a run down at 7 pm on the unique aircraft, followed by Dr. Atwood to make your aviation evening complete. So don’t miss out!

You’re invited to our next gathering on Wednesday February 11th at 6:30 for hangar flying and at 7pm we welcome David Slonim, Esq.. Mr. Slonim was the Velocity Young Eagles pilot, and he is also an attorney.
He will be speaking on topics concerning both points.

You’re invited as we kick off a new year this Wednesday the 14th. It’s our first regular gathering.
Yes, it’s been a while so come on out, join us and find out what’s going on.
We’ll have a hangar home update, Chili Cook-off notes on the 17th, along with other items of interest.
Then enjoy a very interesting presentation as we are lucky to welcome Denny Tharp.

Denny will share his experience flying a variety of Air Force Aircraft. Mr. Tharp served 3 deployments to Southeast Asia from 1969-1972 flying KC-135 Air Refuelers and EC-47 Electronic Reconnaissance Aircraft. His leadership positions in the Air Force include Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering at the U.S.A.F. Academy, Deputy Director of Flight Test Engineering at Wright-Patterson AFB and Director of Satellite Operations at Cape Canaveral AFS. Mr. Tharp has been awarded The Distinguished Flying Cross, it's one of the most prestigious U.S. military aviation awards, along with numerous others.

If you are a 2025 paid member you know this Wednesday, November 12th we take our vote for the ’26 Board of Directors. Except for the Treasurers position, all others are running unopposed. Doors open at 6:30 pm for hanger Flying and 7:00 for our vote.

We welcome John “Jake” Jacobson. Jake obtained his private pilot ticket in 1975. He is a retired US Air Force Colonel and Command Pilot with over 5,000 hours of flying time in the U-2S; U-2ST; TR-1; F-111; T-38; and T-37 aircraft with 30 years of service. Jake also holds FAA Instrument, Commercial, Flight Instructor, Multi-engine and Air Traffic Controller certifications.

His presentation includes a brief overview and top-level summary of his experience flying the U-2 in combat. High altitude photo missions of the space shuttle after it returned to flying status in 1989. Plus flying the aircraft into and out of Oshkosh AirVenture in 1997. Jake will cover the unique characteristics and challenges of flying and operationally employing the U-2 including views when flying above 70,000 feet, video highlights with Gary Sinise.

Bill has covered the U.S. space program full-time since 1984, first as Cape Canaveral bureau chief for United Press International and now as a Senior Space Consultant for CBS News. He has covered 129 space shuttle missions, every interplanetary flight since Voyager 2's flyby of Neptune and scores of commercial and military launches. Based at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Mr. Harwood is a devoted amateur astronomer and co-author of "Comm Check: The Final Flight of Shuttle Columbia." So Don’t miss out on this special event!
