Cub Scouting is fun for the whole family and open to children from Kindergarten through 5th grade. No matter what grade you are in, first through fifth, it can be a blast. You can learn to tie knots, set up a tent, shoot a bow and arrow (archery). Have you ever cooked a meal on a campfire? Sent a secret code to a buddy? Built a birdhouse? Played Ultimate? Hiked? Earn rewards for doing these things

in Cub Scouts. Cub Scouts Belong to Packs and Dens. As a Cub Scout, you will be part of your own pack. The pack is divided into smaller groups called dens. Each den has about six to eight boys. All of the Cub Scouts in your den are in the same grade and may even go to the same school. The Cub Scout pack belongs to a church, a school, or some other group of people in your community or neighborhood. This group makes sure your pack has good adult leaders, a place to meet, and exciting things to do. The group gets help from the Boy Scouts of America, which is part of Scouting around the world. Cub Scouts Do Things and Go Places. Have you been to the local police station and talked to the policemen on duty? Or visited the fire station and sat in the driver's seat of the pumper truck? Or visited the local TV station and sat in the news anchor's chair? These are some of the places you might go with your den or pack. You might also build a pinewood derby car and race it on the track, build a sailboat or trimaran and race it in the raingutter regatta, or build a spaceship and race it to the stars in the pack space derby. Cub Scouts Earn Awards. Each time you complete an accomplishment or learn a new skill, you will be rewarded. Sometimes the reward is a bead or a patch. Sometimes it is a smile on your parents' faces to see you grow and learn.

Dear Pack 656 families,

A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who participated in Scouting for Food over the past two weekends!

Because of your teamwork, our pack collected 793 pounds of food for Food for Others. That’s an incredible amount. I think it was about 200 lbs more than last year. It will make a real difference for families in our community.

Thank you to everyone who helped place stickers, collect food, drive scouts and donations, and cheer on our scouts. Whether you covered one street or several, every bit of help added up.

Great job, Pack 656 (Best of the Mix)! You all lived up to the Scout Oath and Law, helping others and doing your best.

Hey racers! It’s time to kick off your Pinecar season with us at Fairfax Ace!

Starting Saturday, January 4th, come on by and grab everything you need – from supplies to decorations to our cutting services!

For just a $5 donation to our local Children’s National Hospital, we’ll cut your design on the spot, no reservations necessary. Just stop by the cashier, and we’ll help you get to the finish line!

Remember to bring your designs already drawn with cutting areas marked, as we’re here to handle the cutting only!

Fall was a busy one for Pack 656! In October, November, and December we...
- Went camping as a Pack to Burke Lake Park. We had a record turnout and perfect weather.
- Fairfax School Board Members Karl Frisch and Ilryong Moon spoke with the Scouts about voting and the role of the School Board.
- Went on a 5 mile hike around Glover Archbold Park in DC and another hike through Eakin Park.
- Performed a service project for the Montessori School of Cedar Lane. We cleared their nature trail and removed sediment from their parking lot to prevent flooding.
- Visited the Merrifield Fire Station and witnessed an epic race to determine who could get their fire gear on fastest.

And we have tons more planned for 2025. Next up - Pinewood Derby in February!!

Interested in learning more about our Pack or Cub Scouts? We have TWO events this week for families.

On September 11, we will be hosting our monthly Pack meeting from 6:30 to 7:30pm at the Fairhill Elementary cafeteria.

On September 14, we will be hosting a Back to School Party from 9:30 to 11:30am on the Fairhill Elementary playground. We'll even have some special guests from Official George Mason District, NCAC, BSA to talk about all the opportunities available for cub Cub Scouts in the National Capital Area Council, BSA.
