☀️ The "100 Deadliest Days" are here—let’s work together to make it the 100 Safest Days of Summer. ☀️
Did you know that the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day is known by safety experts as the "100 Deadliest Days" for teen drivers?
With school out and more free time, teen driving fatalities spike by nearly 20% during the summer months.
As parents, we want them to enjoy their summer freedom, but their safety always comes first. The leading culprits are driver inexperience, speeding, and distractions—especially having other teens in the car. In fact, a teen's crash risk doubles with two young passengers and quadruples with three or more.
The good news? Parents have a massive influence on keeping these stats down! Here is how we can protect our young drivers over the next few months:
📱 Enforce a "No Phones" Rule: Set a strict boundary that phones stay out of reach while driving. No texts, no playlists tweaks, no exceptions.
👥 Limit the Passengers: Consider limiting the number of friends allowed in the car for the first few months of summer.
⏰ Keep an Eye on Curfews: Most serious teen nighttime crashes happen before midnight. Keeping an eye on the clock matters.
🚗 Be the Blueprint: Our kids watch how we drive. Let’s lead by example—put our own phones away, buckle up, and keep to the speed limit.
Let’s talk to our teens early and often. A simple, honest conversation about road safety can truly save a life.
