Today team members completed the annual MURPH Hero Workout in honor of Lieutenant Michael Murphy who gave his life during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan in July of 2005.

We also remember those NYPD members who have laid down their lives for our freedom, fighting wars on foreign soil to provide peace at home. These sacrifices date back to February 27, 1918, when 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐫, 𝐒𝐚𝐦𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐁𝐢𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 was killed in action during WWI.

More recently we have lost 𝐓𝐃 𝟐 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐫𝐦𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐜𝐍𝐚𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐨𝐧 who gave his life during the Iraq War on August 2, 2005. James was killed by sniper fire while climbing a guard tower at Camp Victory in Baghdad. James’ legacy lives on through the James McNaughton Foundation. His family is also very active in the Wounded Warrior Community.

On October 22, 2008 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐥𝐲𝐧 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐍𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐆𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐚𝐲𝐥𝐨𝐫 was killed after a roadside bomb detonated in Bela Beluk, Afghanistan. Deon had previously served four years of active duty service with the US Army before reenlisting with the National Guard. The Sergeant Deon L. Taylor Memorial Sports field can be found at Fort Hamilton in Brooklyn.

𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐔𝐒 𝐀𝐢𝐫 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐉𝐨𝐬𝐞𝐩𝐡 𝐋𝐞𝐦𝐦 𝐚𝐤𝐚 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 was killed on December 21, 2015 by a su***de bomber near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. Lemm was a 15 year veteran of the NYPD and had previously deployed to Iraq. Lemm is survived by his wife, Christine, his daughter, Brooke; and his son, Ryan. The Joseph Lemm Superman statue can be seen at the entrance to The Police Academy.

Today and everyday we are grateful to the men and women who have given their lives so that we may live free.

On January 21, 2022 Detective Jason Rivera and Detective Wilbert Mora were shot and killed when they responded with a third officer to the report of a domestic dispute call in an apartment at 119 West 135th Street in Harlem.

We honor those we’ve lost by performing Hero Workouts in their names. There are many ways to ensure the legacies of our fallen brothers and sisters live on. Our way is to come together as a community of cops and CrossFitters to do some shared suffering.

Thank you to all of our Judges and volunteers who made sure we ran a safe and fun event! Not only did this crew come on their own time to judge, they set up lanes, broke down equipment, and even did plate changes mid workout on multiple bars during Event 2.

Special thank you to for being our head judge and demo athlete. Walking the floor all day ensuring that standards were being met (we saw those no reps being dished out).

Also to who is shown demonstrating a proper Box Step Over before Event 1, for being a demo athlete and running the clock (she ran 2 and kept them in sync, if you do CF, you know that’s not easy).

We appreciate all of your effort, as do the athletes who were able to compete thanks to you!

Greg Glassman once said that “men will die for points.”These were the men he was talking about.

A dog fight all day came down to the third and final event. The top 3 athletes were separated by just two points. As they entered the final round, they looked left and right to gauge where the others were. When one man dropped from the bar, another held on. When one bike cadence slowed, the next bike roared. This was not just a workout, this was a strategic battle for the top spot.

When the smoke cleared, it was John taking home the gold. A tie for second between Ryan and Tim was settled by Ryan’s Event 1 win. The most competitive RX male division we have seen in years put on quite a show for the crowd.

I think we will see these three again next year…

Andie came prepared for battle, but found no willing opponents. As our only Rx Female, Andie cruised to victory, setting the scores to beat amongst the men and women in all 3 events. At the end of the day she finally found some competition, as she entered the overall final against our top 3 male competitors. After a 4 movement chipper, the workout ended with a 400m run. Andie exited the garage and made the first turn with the men right on her heels. Anticipation built as the course went around the block and out of sight. Coming around the final turn the crowd expected a photo finish. But the only photo would be Andie, all alone, securing the fittest overall athlete.

Another clean sweep in our Male Scaled Division. Pete Thorp of PAPD took all 3 event wins on his way to a first place finish! He was pushed all day by veteran competitor Eloy, and Terence, competing in his first CrossFit competition!
