Cub Scout Pack 206, Merrick NY

A record 22(!) Cub Scouts completed their Cub Scout program requirements and "crossed over" to Boy Scout Troops 123 and 225 today as Cub Scout Pack 206 celebrated its 79th consecutive annual Blue & Gold Celebration! The event marked the end of their Cub Scout experience but now they are on to bigger and better adventures with the Boy Scouts. They celebrated with family and friends and younger Scouts in the Pack at the Merrick Road Golf Course Clubhouse

We were very grateful to be joined by Senator Steve Rhoads, Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti, Hempstead Town Clerk Kate Murray, Councilman Chris Schneider, and Legislator Michael J. Giangregorio. Your kind and encouraging words for the Scouts and their families were appreciated and resonated with all.

Pack 206 is completing its 79th year of consecutive service to the Merrick and Bellmore youth and communities. With your ongoing support and that of the community, we look forward to many more years to come! Looking forward to #80!

Today the Tiger Scouts (first graders) of Pack 206 delivered personal care packages (100 in all) that the boys prepared to the Long Island Coalition for the Homeless (https://www.addressthehomeless.org/). Each package contained a toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, comb, deodorant and tissues This wonderful organization coordinates a number of activities in support of the homeless across LI, providing shelter, clothes, food and medical care when necessary. Shortly after the New Year, they will be conducting their Point in Time study where they will be canvassing across LI to better measure the extent of the population in need and will deliver these packages directly to those most in need.

The lesson learned for the Scouts: it doesn't take a tremendous amount of effort to be able to give back and impact your community is a direct and positive way. In less than 30 mins they were able to touch 100 lives.

On December 13, the Cub Scouts of Pack 206 participated in the Wreaths Across America ceremonies held at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale The boys placed numerous wreaths on the graves of veterans and acknowledged each with a "Thank you for your service" and a salute. This is a special meaningful event every year and we are thrilled the boys got to participate.

The Cub Scouts of Pack 206 were out in force to join the Merrick Memorial Day Parade. We are proud to honor the memories of all those who made the ultimate sacrifice on our behalf. God bless them and their families.

Please join us to support the Cub Scouts of Pack 206 this Wednesday 4/14 between 4PM -8PM @ Panera Bread on Merrick Road. The fund raiser is being organized by our oldest Scouts who, after 5 years of perseverance and hard work (and a lot of resilience this past year!) have completed the Cub Scout program and are now moving on to join several of our local Boy Scout troops.
