As we approach the end of February, all I can think about is Spring. Spring has always been my favorite season — everything feels new, full of hope, a time of rebirth.
Until 2019.
Our daughter was expecting our first grandson, and I couldn’t wait for him to arrive. When the call finally came telling us it was time, my husband and I jumped in the car and started the 8‑hour drive from Chicago to Kansas City. We were halfway there when the phone rang again:
“There is no heartbeat.”
How could that be? It couldn’t be true. There had to be some mistake. But there wasn’t. And in that moment, our world shifted.
Finnlee James was born still on March 20, 2019. Our lives were forever changed. Our hearts shattered for our daughter and son‑in‑law. We felt helpless — so we channeled that pain into something small we could do. We began sending foxes to the hospital where Finnlee was born, a simple gesture to let other grieving families know they are not alone.
Finnlee should be turning 7 this year. He should be wrestling with his brothers. He should be here. And we know there are so many families walking through this same kind of heartbreak. A stuffed fox can’t fix that — but it can remind someone that their baby mattered, and that someone cares.
If you would like to help us continue sharing that love, we would be incredibly grateful.
Choose a fox, add it to your cart, select the registry address at checkout, and it will be delivered directly to the hospital.
Thank you for honoring our grandson’s memory and for spreading kindness to families who need it. ❤️🦊🦊🦊
