The numbers are staggering: One in three Idaho children are overweight or obese, putting them at risk for serious health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease. This generation of children likely represents the first in American history to have a shorter life expectancy than that of their parents. The High Five Children's Health Collaborative, powered by the Blue Cross o

f Idaho Foundation for Health, is a statewide effort to fight childhood obesity in Idaho using five proven strategies:

1) Increased physical activity
2) Improved access to healthy and affordable foods
3) Healthier schools and childcare facilities
4) Education to help parents make healthier choices
5) Promotion of public policies that fight the causes of obesity

The Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health, Inc., is a nonprofit charitable foundation established in 2001 by Blue Cross of Idaho. The creation of the Foundation stemmed from our desire to improve the health of all Idahoans through wellness and prevention programs. To promote a healthier Idaho, the Foundation engages in collaborative partnerships, health programs and community giving. We are committed to addressing Idaho’s health needs. A 501(c)(3) organization that serves Idaho, the Blue Cross of Idaho Foundation for Health is an independent licensee of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.

Last week, the Idaho Coalition for Community Schools team held the first ever meeting of the the State Steering Committee!
This committee will serve as a collaborative forum representing statewide stakeholders, guiding the goals and objectives of the Coalition for Community Schools.
Our members kicked off by highlighting their hopes for Idaho kids and families, and are pictured here with their "one word" goals!
