Today, we honor the South Carolina deputy who made the ultimate sacrifice during dive training.

Every public safety diver understands that the risks are real. We train relentlessly, not because it’s easy, but because someone else’s worst day may depend on our readiness.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the deputy’s family, friends, fellow deputies, and the entire public safety diving community during this difficult time.

May we honor this sacrifice by continuing to train with purpose, serve with courage, and always look out for one another.

Rest easy, We’ll take it from here. We have the watch.

A Lexington County Sheriff’s Department deputy died Thursday during an underwater training session with the agency’s dive team on Lake Murray.

Jillian Olson, 29, began her career as a Lexington County deputy in 2021.

After more than a year as a patrol deputy, she transferred to a warrant deputy position.

Olson was promoted to master deputy in the Warrant Division in 2025. She had been a member of the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department dive team since 2024.

“Our hearts are broken by the loss of a valuable member of the Sheriff’s Department,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.

This is exactly why carrying and knowing how to properly deploy a DSMB (Delayed Surface Marker Buoy) is so important.

A DSMB helps boaters and surface support quickly locate divers, increases visibility in open water, and adds an extra layer of safety during every dive. Whether you’re recreational diving or operating on a public safety dive team, this simple piece of equipment can make a critical difference.

Always dive prepared. Your safety and the safety of your dive team depends on it.

A missing scuba diver in the Florida Keys was found safe after one piece of equipment made all the difference.

The U.S. Coast Guard says the diver's delayed surface marker buoy (DSMB) allowed rescuers to spot him just a quarter-mile from the search area, leading to a swift rescue.

It's another reminder of why many experienced divers never enter the water without one.

🇺🇸 America 250: Honoring Our Past. Inspiring Our Future. 🇺🇸

As our nation celebrates 250 years of freedom, courage, and resilience, we proudly honor the generations of Americans who have built, protected, and served this great country.

From the founding of our nation in 1776 to today, America’s story has been shaped by ordinary people doing extraordinary things in service to their communities and one another.

As we commemorate this historic milestone, let us remember the sacrifices that secured our freedoms, celebrate the spirit that unites us, and inspire the next generation to continue building a stronger America.

Here’s to 250 years of liberty—and to the future that lies ahead.
Happy America 250! 🇺🇸🎆
