Keep the pressure on...animal cruelty has no place in our society. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1K6cbSdC4h/

A Pennsylvania man who admitted to strangling two neighborhood cats in a rage was sentenced to prison in May 2026, and the case is drawing national attention to how animal cruelty cases are sentenced.

Timothy Eyler was charged with two felony counts of aggravated cruelty to animals causing serious bodily injury or death, as well as two misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, after killing two cats in his neighborhood. On April 29, Judge Angela R. Krom sentenced him to 2 to 23 months in prison under Pennsylvania's sentencing guidelines.

The sentence also includes a mandatory mental health evaluation and treatment, a DNA test, drug and alcohol restrictions, anger management, a prohibition on possessing fi****ms, and a seven-year ban on owning any animals.

Animal welfare advocates, including In Defense of Animals, submitted a letter signed by over 11,000 people urging the district attorney's office to seek the maximum sentence. Under Pennsylvania's updated cruelty laws, Eyler could theoretically have faced up to seven years for each felony count and two years for each misdemeanor, along with thousands of dollars in fines.

The gap between what was possible under the law and what was actually handed down is at the heart of the public frustration with this case.

Organizations like In Defense of Animals have pointed repeatedly to research connecting animal cruelty to escalating patterns of violence. The National Link Coalition has documented that animal abuse is consistently present in the backgrounds of people who later commit violent crimes against people. It is not an isolated issue. It is a warning sign.

Pennsylvania's cruelty laws were strengthened in recent years precisely because advocates recognized that the previous penalties were not sufficient to reflect the seriousness of these crimes. The law is there. The question is always whether it gets fully used.

Let's get these guys some storage! Thank you, Treasure Valley😻

We’re building out Copper Quill Haven’s clinic space, and one of our biggest current wishlist needs is shelving and storage.

Shelving helps us keep clinic supplies clean, organized, accessible, and ready for use. It also helps us reserve more of our startup funding for medical equipment, vaccines, surgery supplies, and direct care access.

We’re looking for:

Heavy-duty shelving
Wire shelves
Utility shelves
Storage racks
Clear bins/totes
Cabinets
Drawer organizers
Cleaning supply storage
Labeling supplies

New or gently used is welcome if it is clean, sturdy, and functional.

Have something to donate?
Message us with a photo, dimensions if possible, and your general location.

Our partners in prevention! Please share, donate, and volunteer. Here's our chance to make a substantial difference in animals' lives❤️

A building is not the mission.

But it gives the mission somewhere to happen.

Copper Quill Haven is working toward a low-cost clinic focused on spay/neuter, vaccines, and the mission to tackle the underlying causes that full-shelters carry the load on.

This space will become more than walls and windows. It will become a place where prevention can happen before crisis. Where affordable care starts becoming real.

We’re still in the building phase, and community support matters right now.

Help us bring this clinic to life.

Share this post, follow along, or message us if you’d like to help with paint, supplies, or volunteer painting.

Affordable pet care starts here. 🐾

TOMORROW!
Remember George Gebran, the Junk King cat killer? Wednesday May 20th, at 8:30 am, cat supporters will be in front of the Ada County Courthouse with signs against him. Try to be there by 8:30. We will be outside, then going inside to watch the proceedings at 9. You won't be able to bring weapons or signs inside, so plan to leave them out front (weapons in car or at home). We hope to have a great turnout. This will be his pretrial conference....numbers do make a difference.

🎨 Help Us Bring Color to Copper Quill Haven!

Copper Quill Haven is getting closer to opening our doors, and we’re looking for community support to help make our clinic space feel warm, clean, welcoming, and ready for the animals and people we’ll serve.

We are currently seeking:

🖌️ Paint donations
Interior paint, primer, rollers, brushes, trays, drop cloths, painter’s tape, and other basic painting supplies are all welcome.

👥 A volunteer wall-painting team
We’d love to connect with individuals, groups, businesses, clubs, or service organizations willing to donate a few hours to help paint interior walls and bring this space to life.

This is a great opportunity for a team service project, employee volunteer day, club activity, or just a few generous humans who don’t mind a little paint on their sleeves.

Every donated gallon, brushstroke, and volunteer hour helps us move closer to launching affordable veterinary care for pets and families in Canyon County.

Interested in donating supplies or helping paint? Please message us here or email copperquillhaven.org to arrange a drop off.

Thank you for helping us turn an empty space into a place of hope.

A message from your OCC President, Shelly Khir (and Poppy the Cat):
We are more than halfway through Idaho Gives, and we have 17% of our goal accomplished. If you're still on the fence, please jump down on our side and donate! Let me share why--

*We are an all-volunteer working hard to get every cat fixed and cared for in the Treasure Valley.
*We fund 5 spay/neuter clinics throughout the valley.
*OCC and other local rescues are doing the job we wish local municipalities would.

Here's the fact: We can not wait for counties, cities, and their politicians to recognize and help this time-sensitive disaster of overpopulation of cats.

Your help (big or small) makes the all the difference in how many cats we can help. Only you, our donors, can make the difference right now in the lives of the many cats waiting for help. Here's your link. Thank you❤️
