PERSONALITY TRAITS:
Nala is loveable, silly, happy-go-lucky-bouncy, and wiggly pup. She does well with other calmer dogs and could live with another gentle dog in the home. Nala would do best with respectful children 8+. Nala would love to show you how much she can learn with some positive reinforcement. Nala is the kind of dog that loves to be right next to you.

Here is what shelter staff and volunteers have to say about Nala:
‼⚠ A SWEET HEART WITH A WILD SIDE NALA MUST EXIT THE SHELTER BY 5/30 ⚠‼ Nala is the perfect mix of sweet, gentle, and hilariously playful — truly the best of both worlds! 💕🐾 In her kennel, she’s typically calm and relaxed, usually only getting excited when people walk by, her little tail shaking with anticipation at the chance to come out and say hello. 🥹✨ Once outside, Nala absolutely shines. She’s eager to get out and have fun, leashes up beautifully, and is an amazing walking companion. 🦮 She matches your pace perfectly, walks nicely on a loose leash, and rarely pulls —she’s just happy to be by your side. ❤ When she first came into the office, Nala slowly waddled around greeting everyone with full-body tail wags, soaking up all the love and attention she could get. 🥰 But once her playful side came out, she had everyone laughing! 😂 With her adorable little zoomies and goofy personality, she loves running around, chasing balls 🎾, squeaking toys 🧸, and having the best time. At one point, she got so excited she tried to springboard off a coworker — safe to say the landing didn’t quite go as planned! 🤦‍♀️ 🤣 After playtime, Nala is more than happy to curl up for cuddles and would love nothing more than to climb into your lap for affection. 🛋💖 This girl is truly an absolute gem. 💎🐶 🐶Dog-to-dog: Nala participated in doggie playgroups with both male and female dogs and has done best with easygoing male and females. She was very social and respectful with the other dogs, and did great adjusting her play style. Nala with one of our more submissive female dogs — she immediately lowered herself to the ground and matched the other dog. Nala can get a little flirty and playful when spending one-on-one time with the boys, she overall has very nice social skills and would likely do best with friendly, easygoing dogs that enjoy calm, respectful interactions. NALA A374185 LISTED AS A 2 YEAR 1 MONTH-OLD, GRAY AND WHITE, PIT BULL.

ZOE IS ADOPTED!

A big congratulations to Brooke for adopting Zoe! Brooke writes, "It has been amazing! It’s like she’s been here for months. Buster is adjusting more than her now that he has to share some attention lol Daily work to maintain all her training. She’s doing great with placing and waiting on the couch while Buster eats his dinner, but I gave them breakfast this morning both on opposite ends of the kitchen and they do great! Buster was guarding his food a bit but better by the day! Slowly starting to see her silly little quirks like when we’re laying in bed or on the couch and she lifts her head to look and make sure I’m still there then she aggressively flips her head back down on the couch or my legs, makes me giggle every time. We are absolutely in love!"

Thank you to all the folks who helped get Zoe to Boise:
Aubrey - Bexar County Animal Facility - for bringing Zoe to our attention.
Rose - PawsRun1 Transport - for her getting all of the pooches to us safely! Rose is always reliable and takes wonderful care of the dogs in her charge.
Tricia - BBBR's Transport Coordinator - for managing the transport details on our end.

Thank you to BBBR Medical Coordinator Paige for overseeing Zoe's medical while in rescue.

Thank you to BBBR Foster/Adoption Coordinator Ashley for facilitating the adoption.

Thank you to our friends at PAWS for providing Zoe with a wonderful training background.

Thank you to BBBR Trainer David for introducing Zoe to her human and fur family.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who spent time with Zoe while she was in the rescue.

Have the best life sweet girl!

BBBR sends so much love to longtime board member Jessika and husband Travis. Their sweet BBBR pup Maddie crossed the rainbow bridge this last week after an incredibly short battle with cancer. Maddie was adopted in 2019 and was loved by her family until her very last breath. Sending you both and sweet Allie so much love! Fly high, sweet girl!

BBBR Alum Thor Update!

Adopter Karleen writes, "We hope this email finds you well. We wanted to give you all an update on Thor as we are about to the 3-month mark with this sweet guy!

We are excited to report he had a successful introduction with my sister, with whom he now associates as the treat lady
😆.

He has even recently surprised us with his Thor-meter by taking us on a nice steady jog. We are so grateful Thor choose us as his forever home as each day his silly personality brings us so much joy and laughter!

He is the best patio companion and recently discovered the grass is not a bad place to lounge while I am gardening. Though he is still our little piglet and gravitates toward the dirt patches when possible.

We truly want to express our gratitude to the BBBR team for providing this guy a second chance and us the opportunity to be his forever family!

He is seriously such a goofy love bug and we could not ask for a better pup!

Attached are some fun photos - including one in his place, and yes there is even one of him sleeping sitting up."

BBBR Foster boy Goose update!

Foster mom Marti writes, “A thankful Saturday update with sweet Goose.

Goose is a bit of a hero for me this week. Tuesday, I had my headphones on and Goose started urgently barking. Now, Goose doesn't bark much at all and this is a quiet home so I was rather alarmed to hear him bark so urgently. Even when the neighbor's dogs are barking at the fence, Goose just sits there and doesn't bark back at those dogs. I yanked my headphones off trying to figure out what was going on. Then I heard loud pounding at my door, looked out the window, and saw a police car. I answered the door, and was told by the police that there was a fire, and I had to evacuate. Goose thought it great fun running up and down the stairs filling my car with photo albums and file folders. He sat quietly in the car for a couple of hours with me, while we waited to see if we could return home. Fortunately for us, we returned home, all safe. Without Goose here, I would have not heard the police at my door. Extra treats for sweet Goose that night.

Goose is such a good boy. He is mostly calm and quiet, but will notify you if the police are at your door, lol. He is my shadow and has the most expressive looks with those eyes of his. He has healed up nicely, since his days on the streets. I will send you before and after pictures of his fur. When I look at David's Insta clip, with skinny Goose, I see how far he has come. So thankful for BBBR staff who saved this sweet, sweet boy.”

SOS! URGENT MEDICAL FOSTER NEEDED FOR SADIE!!

This is about Sadie’s quality of life. Unfortunately we were unaware she had these injuries when she arrived to us. She desperately wants to participate in playgroup and go on walks with volunteers, but we have to carefully limit her activity due to her pain. We are committed to helping her get back to playing ball, one of her favorite things to do!

Sadie has not one, but TWO torn CCLs and is in need of TWO CBLO surgeries. The procedures can be done separately or at the same time, depending on what the medical foster is comfortable taking on.

CBLO surgery is performed to stabilize torn cranial cruciate ligaments (similar to an ACL injury in humans). Recovery typically averages 8–12 weeks per surgery, with the first several weeks requiring restricted activity while the bone heals. If both knees are repaired at the same time, recovery can be more intensive initially, but may shorten the overall rehabilitation timeline.

Sadie would do best in a calm recovery home with someone who is retired and/or works from home. A quiet environment without other pets or small children would give her the best chance at a smooth recovery.

The rescue will provide support, guidance, food and supplies throughout the process.

Please submit a foster application if interested!

Pioneer is available for adoption!

Thank you BBBR Photographer Jada for the beautiful pictures of Pioneer. Jada writes, "Meet Pioneer! This gentle boy is the absolute sweetest. He was snoozing when I went to grab him from his kennel, once he woke up he met me with sleepy excited wiggles.

Once we got out in the yard Pioneer stayed close and made sure to take advantage of every opportunity to soak up pets and scratches. He'd lean into me and melt onto the turf for belly rubs. Pioneer has such a calm, gentleness about him and he was perfectly happy sitting together watching the sunset together.

Pioneer wasn't very interested in toys but he is food motivated. Someone has clearly put some time into teaching him. He knows how to sit and was easily lured into a down. He stayed in a sit with ease as I created distance to snap some photos and he happily trotted to me when I called. He takes treats so gently and isn't overly excited by food.

This sweet boy will make such a great addition to a laid back family who is looking for a new best friend to spend their time with. He doesn't need a fast paced life, but one filled with quality time together!"

Toe is available for adoption!

Thank you BBBR Photographer Jada for the beautiful pictures of Toe. Jada writes, "This is Toe! Due to some unforseen circumstances he is back at the rescue. We aren't sure what exactly is going on with his coat quite yet, but he will be seen by a vet soon. Despite his appearance looking a little rough, this guy didn't let it bother him one bit.

He happily greeted me in the yard with body wiggles and leaning in for pets. Now, this boy loves toys, but he walked away from his toy he was chewing on to greet me and come say hello. He wanted to be close and wanted to engage.

We started off by playing a bit. You can tell he lives for a good game of fetch. He is fast, he is agile but better yet he is connected with the person he is playing with. He brought the toy back to me every time. Toe knows how to drop the toy to keep the game going. He was willing to play until he could no longer breathe, or unless you have treats! He also didnt obess over the toy once it was put away.

Toe is very food motivated and so obedient. He's got a good handle on some basic obedience in low stimulating environments like sit, down, stay and coming when his name was called. He was such a good boy.

Toe's world is a little upside down right now and he really is just looking for a soft place to land. He is looking for a home body to call family, a family that wants to spend quality time with him, play with him and get out one some walks. Otherwise this guy would love to curl up with his people on the couch and just be together. Come meet Toe!"
