I grew up in Meridian, Mississippi, the hometown of the Mississippi Distinguished Young Women program. Because of this, it quickly became a tradition for my mother and me to attend the state finals together and watch the talented young women of Mississippi take the stage.
In addition to this tradition, I was blessed to grow up surrounded by incredibly talented and kind role models. As a little girl, I had the opportunity to watch these young women practice their talents and prepare for their Distinguished Young Women programs. Their work ethic and dedication inspired me to take my own leap into the Distinguished Young Women program in hopes that I could one day be the same kind of role model for young girls that they were for me.
So far, this program has been nothing short of a blessing in my life. I have gained valuable skills such as confidence, public speaking, and resilience that I will carry with me for years to come. I’ve even learned how to be better at social media! 😆 Beyond these life skills, I have also formed meaningful friendships that I cannot imagine my life without.
As I continue on to State finals, I look forward to gaining even more valuable life skills, making lasting memories, and building friendships that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
