The Meridian Community Garden started as an RC&D project back in 2010 when Katie Gonzalez came to us with an idea. Now managed by Juli Bokenkamp it has grown substantially, suppling a lot of produce to the Idaho food bank.

Join us Saturday Sept 30 at Idaho Sporting Clay for our first annual Waterfowl Warmup Classic. What better way to get tuned up for our season. Sign up will start at 9am with our first groups of shooters starting at 10am sharp!! Price is $75 per shooter with youth 16 and under $60. We are shooting 100 clays. I’ve seen a lot of posts for people looking for new people to hunt with, this is a great way to meet those people. We will be providing free lunch for all the shooters as well. Trophies for the top 3 in 3 different divisions ( Mens, women, and youth). And this is where we will award our belt buckles for the best 3 out of 4 rounds of our shoots this year. We will also have some great raffle prizes. So come out and join us.

Conservation Grant Writing Workshop

Learn how to write grants to fund your conservation projects! From where to find grants to how to put together a proposal, this comprehensive class is interesting and informative. It is open to everyone, but there will be a conservation focus to the program.

This workshop is presented by Tom Bicak, a national award-winning historic preservationist, park creator, and President of the Southwest Idaho Resource Conservation and Development Council. Nichole Schwend, Director of Canyon County Parks, Cultural and Natural Resources, and a professional Archaeologist. Alex Ells, Outdoor Recreation Planner for Canyon County who is currently creating, funding, and managing numerous projects in southwest Idaho.

There are six topics addressed in the workshop:
• Do I need a grant? Or something else? A case study of the Historic Guffey Bridge.
• Where is the money? We will tell you where to find all the grants available to you.
• Justifying your request. How to ask and answer the question, why?
• Writing the winning narrative.
• Can I do this alone? Who else supports this project? And how to get more support.
• Budgeting for scope and the grant request reviewer’s eyes.

We are partnering wither Waterfowlers of Idaho (WOI) to host a youth conservation day on August 19th at the Idaho Fish and Game Region #3 Headquarters in Nampa. We feel strongly for the need to introduce and teach ethical hunting to especially our youth who will be carrying on this sport.
As non-profits we need to raise funds to be able to do this. You can be a part of this effort by attending one or all of our clay pigeon shoots throughout the summer and coming to the conservation day.
After a great 2022, WOI has confirmed dates for our 2023 events. Here is the dates and locations and you will notice some BIG changes we are very excited about.
April 22nd, clay pigeon shoot at Caldwell Gun Club
June 17th clay pigeon shoot Rock Creek Shooting Emmett
July 15th clay pigeon shoot Idaho Sporting Clay, Homedale
August 19th 7th annual youth day Southwest Idaho Regional
Sept 30th 1st Annual “Waterfowl Warmup Classic”, Idaho Sporting Clay, Homedale
The Waterfowl Warmup Classic will be a clay pigeon shoot designed to mimic a lot of waterfowl shooting opportunities, this will be a traveling trophy that will be passed on from winner to winner each year. At the end of the shoot, we will be having a BBQ with auction and raffle items. This will be our version of a banquet with a WOI twist on it.

PM SWID RC&D or WOI if you have any questions. keep checking our pages of any updates.

It has taken 3 years to collect enough finances to reprint this extremely popular plant guide. I am sorry about the quality of this photo, it really is a great photo. We now have a good supply. D&B Supply is again carrying these books at the Glenwood, Meridian and East gate stores. The cost is the same as it was before, $6 each. We are exploring the idea of printing a comparable guide for all the wildlife on the front if there is enough interest. Let us know what you think.
