💛 SEPTEMBER IS SU***DE AWARENESS MONTH 💛
September reminds us of something we should never forget: every life has value, and no one should have to face their darkest moments alone.
Behind every statistic is a person—a son or daughter, a husband or wife, a father or mother, a veteran, a first responder, a friend, or a neighbor.
Sometimes the strongest people are the ones quietly fighting battles nobody can see.
This month, let's check on our people.
Make the phone call.
Send the text.
Sit down and listen.
Ask the question: “Are you okay?”
And if someone tells you they're struggling, don't judge them, don't dismiss them, and don't assume they'll simply get over it.
Listen. Stay. Walk beside them.
Su***de doesn't just affect the person we lose. It leaves families, friends, brothers and sisters in service, and entire communities asking, “What could we have done?”
Let's work together to make sure more people hear a different message:
You matter.
You are not alone.
Your story isn't over.
There is hope.
This September, let's turn awareness into action and remind one another that it's okay to ask for help—and it's okay to ask someone else if they need it.
No family forgotten. No one left behind.

The Cost of Freedom Tribute

PART 4 The Gulf War — A New Sound for a New Kind of War

THE GULF WAR: MUSIC IN THE AGE OF TELEVISION
THE COST OF FREEDOM: WAR ENTERS THE LIVING ROOM
The Gulf War of 1990–1991 brought something new to the American experience of war.
For the first time, millions of Americans could watch the conflict unfold almost instantly on television.
The popular music of the era reflected the changing culture—dance, pop, rock, country and hip-hop—while artists also created music specifically connected to supporting American troops.
Songs such as “Voices That Care” brought musicians together in support of service members.
At the same time, songs dominating the charts—such as Bryan Adams' “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You,” C+C Music Factory's “Gonna Make You Sweat,” and Jesus Jones' “Right Here, Right Now”—captured the broader sound of the early 1990s.
The sound of the Gulf War:
Pop • Rock • Dance • Country • Television • Troop Support
The war was becoming something Americans could experience from their living rooms—and music was changing with it.

August is a month of remembrance, gratitude, and honor.
As we recognize Gold Star Children's Day and Purple Heart Month, we pause to honor two groups whose sacrifices have forever shaped our nation.
Today, we remember the children of our fallen heroes. Gold Star children carry a legacy of courage, love, and sacrifice that began with a parent who gave everything in service to our country. Their strength reminds us that the cost of freedom is often carried for a lifetime.
We also pay tribute to the brave men and women who have been awarded the Purple Heart—service members who were wounded or killed in combat while defending our nation. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering commitment to duty embody the very best of America.
Let us never forget that freedom is not free. It has been earned through sacrifice, defended by heroes, and entrusted to each generation to preserve.
Today, and every day, we remember our fallen, honor the wounded, embrace our Gold Star families and children, and thank every Purple Heart recipient for their extraordinary service.
Remember. Honor. Inspire.
May God continue to bless our Gold Star children, Purple Heart recipients, our veterans, our active-duty military, and the United States of America.
🇺🇸❤️💜

The day honors those living with PTSD, raises awareness about the condition, and encourages people to seek help without stigma. PTSD can affect veterans, first responders, survivors of abuse, accidents, natural disasters, and other traumatic experiences.

Forging Alliances had an incredible month of May filled with opportunities to serve, support, and connect with our community and veterans. Tony Malone and I were honored to represent Forging Alliances while sharing the mission of the radio show throughout our area.

We had the privilege of speaking at both the Newton and Meridian Rotary Clubs while helping promote upcoming community events, including the 3rd Annual Freedom 5K hosted by the East Mississippi Veterans Foundation, which I was proud to participate in.

Tony Malone also joined the Combat Veterans during their annual ride and cookout hosted by VFW post 79.

I had the pleasure of calling the crawfish races during the 2nd Annual Crawfish Boil at VFW post 12124, where fun was definitely had by all.

Next, Tony and I joined several hundred bikers at the Ag Center as they stopped in Meridian on their way to join fellow veterans at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C. This meaningful event was hosted by the Veterans Appreciation Committee along with VFW Post 79. and a number community volunteers.

Another special moment came when VFW Post 12124 hosted the motorcycle riders participating in the “22 States in 22 Days” mission — raising awareness for PTSD and su***de prevention during Mental Health Awareness Month. Tony Malone had the honor of blessing the bikes before their departure from Meridian.

To close out the month, I was deeply honored to attend the annual Memorial Day tribute honoring the brave men and women who stood for our freedoms and made the ultimate sacrifice. This special tribute was hosted by the City of Meridian along with the East Mississippi Veterans Foundation.

Community. Veterans. Faith. Service. That’s what Forging Alliances is all about.
