🚨 Señorita arrived weighing 821 pounds .

For most of her life, Señorita carried gear, supplies, and people through the mountains. She showed up, did the work, and asked for very little in return. ⛰️❤️

Today, her ribs show through her coat, her body is tired, and she needs others to carry her for a while. 🐴

When a horse is this thin, recovery isn’t simple as filling a feed bucket. Every meal has to be carefully planned. Every change has to be gradual. Every day matters. 🩺 Healing takes time, and it takes resources.

Today, on International Working Animal Day, we’re asking you to help carry Señorita through the next chapter of her journey. ❤️

Today we said yes to Señorita ❤️ a senior hinny—the offspring of a stallion (male horse) and a jenny donkey (female donkey).

We are getting her settled in for the night and will share more of Senorita’s story tomorrow.

A big thank you to the couple who asked for help. They have been doing their best to care for Señorita and several others on behalf of an elderly neighbor.

Busy week here.
Some horses are moving forward in their journeys and heading off to training. At the same time, we’re taking in two high-risk horses from very different circumstances.

Different backgrounds. Different paths. But so much in common.

It got me thinking and I’d love your thoughts.

🚨 Seizure is often viewed as the finish line. In reality, it’s just the beginning 🚨

❓ What happens to the horses now❓

Following the recent horse case in Latah County, this has been one of the most common questions we’ve received.

LCSO https://www.facebook.com/share/1DUGFiB3fK/

To help answer it, we’ve created an infographic explaining the factors that can influence outcomes for horses.

Every case is unique, but understanding the steps involved can help people better understand both the challenges and the opportunities that influence a horse’s future. ⬇️🐴

Finally these horses have been removed and we agree with all of the questions being raised by Idaho Animal Rescue Network

At the end of the day, when the system falls short—and unfortunately we have seen that in nearly every livestock welfare case we’ve worked on over the past five years—the animal has no choice, no voice and ultimately is the one who pays the price.

Idaho Animal Rescue Network is doing an awesome job of helping not just small animals but horses too . If you're able to make even a small contribution, it will help geld a stallion, give a mare relief from chronic pain, and help another horse receive sight-saving surgery.

One way of creating change is by teaching the next generation to handle horses with kindness and confidence—not fear. By learning to read body language and recognize when a horse is uncomfortable, young people develop skills that benefit both horses and humans.

A special thank you to our horses Mesa & Reba, who are always patient with young people. Horses like these mares are helping shape a brighter future for horses and the people who love them. ❤️

When the Benewah County case first started to unfold, I saw a video of this little ragamuffin dog sitting alone in a crate, up on the counter separated from the others. Someone had seen her in that same place same crate a year prior.

When I met her in person, that hadn’t changed. While the other dogs barked, paced, and reacted to everything around them, Cricket simply observed.

When we loaded the van for the six-hour drive, I moved her kennel closest to me. Along the way, I offered her small pieces of a turkey sandwich I didn’t eat earlier in the day.

By the time we arrived at the Idaho Humane Society, Cricket didn’t unload with the rest of the group.

Instead, she came back to Horse & Halo. Thank you Idaho Animal Rescue Network for trusting us with her journey.
