🖤 In Loving Memory of Three Fallen Wildland Firefighters 🖤

The BAER family joins the fire service community in mourning the tragic loss of three courageous wildland firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting lives, communities, and our public lands during the Colorado wildfires. Two additional firefighters were injured in the incident, and our thoughts are with them as they recover.

Today, we honor the lives and service of:

• Emily Barker
• Nick Hutcherson
• Sydney Watson

Their courage, dedication, and selfless commitment to serving others will never be forgotten.

We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, fellow crew members, and everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss. The sacrifices made by wildland firefighters remind us of the extraordinary risks emergency responders face every day to protect others.

We are saddened to share the identities of the three firefighters we lost responding to the Knowles Fire in western Colorado on Saturday. The firefighters were assigned to the Rifle Helitack crew and were engaged in initial attack operations on the Knowles Fire when the incident occurred.

The deceased firefighters have been identified as:
💜Emily Barker, 38, of Clinton Township, Michigan, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Rifle Helitack.

💜Nick Hutcherson, 27 of Glendale, Arizona, assigned to the U.S. Forest Service Kaibab National Forest.

💜Sydney Watson, 27, of Warrior, Alabama, assigned to the U.S. Wildland Fire Service Rifle Helitack.

Two additional firefighters were injured during the incident and are receiving medical care.

“We mourn the loss of three firefighters who answered the call to protect others and made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their fellow citizens,” said U.S. Wildland Fire Service Chief Brian Fennessy. “Our thoughts are with their families, loved ones, friends and crewmates as they face an unimaginable loss. These firefighters embodied the courage, professionalism and selflessness that define the wildland fire service. Please join me and my family in keeping our thoughts and prayers with the families of the fallen and our injured firefighters and their families.”

💙🚒 JUNE IS MEN'S MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH 🚑💙

Volunteer firefighters, EMTs, and emergency responders are often the first to step forward when their communities need help. They witness tragedy, manage stress, and carry responsibilities both on and off duty—all while balancing family, work, and volunteer service.

This month, we encourage all men in the emergency services community to make their mental health a priority.

✔️ Check in with your fellow responders.
✔️ Talk about stress and difficult calls.
✔️ Reach out when you need support.
✔️ Remember that asking for help is a sign of strength.

The strongest responders know they don't have to carry the weight alone.

To every volunteer emergency responder: Thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to protecting others. Your mental health matters just as much as your physical health.
