Do not apply! We stand with our brothers from Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687.

⛔️ REQUEST TO STAND DOWN ⛔️

The Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association of Connecticut is asking all affiliated members outside of the Hamden Professional Firefighters Local 2687 refrain from applying for the recently posted Deputy Fire Marshal position in the Town of Hamden, Connecticut.

This position is a union bargaining unit position represented by IAFF Local 2687.

According to Local 2687, the position should be filled internally by a member of the Local, consistent with the collective bargaining agreement. Despite the Local’s efforts to resolve this matter, the Hamden Fire Department has posted the position, and Local 2687 has filed a Municipal Prohibited Practice complaint.

We are asking our brothers and sisters across Connecticut to stand in solidarity with Hamden Local 2687 by not applying for this position while the Local works to resolve this dispute.

A very grim reminder of the dangers first responders and service workers face constantly on our roadways. We offer our condolences to Mr. Hernandez’s family and friends.

CTDOT Employee Elvin Hernandez was hit and killed while doing road maintenance work on Interstate 95 in Fairfield this morning. Our entire agency is heartbroken by this tragedy. Our hearts go out to his family, friends, and everyone who loved him. Today we honor the lives taken on 9/11 and those continuing to suffer and perish due to the lasting health effects.

It is important to recognize the countless lives saved on 9/11 by first responders and people simply helping those next to them.

Twenty-five years later we will never forget.

The Meriden Fire Department is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year! The Meriden Historical Society in conjunction with L-1148 members and retirees have put together an exhibit honoring the anniversary.

For over 70 years we have been proud members of the International Association of Fire Fighters! On Labor Day we honor the dedication of our members to our community, their drive for fair and equitable pay and benefits and safer working conditions.

Members of Truck 1 enjoyed a visit from a future firefighter today! Many of us were once the young child enthralled with fire trucks and firefighters. We are always happy to show children the firehouse, give them a wave or blow the air horn as we pass by on the street or provide a quick tour after a response in their neighborhood.

We appreciate the kind words following today’s visit!

Yesterday’s Back to School Expo was an overwhelming success thanks to our members’ dedication to the community and the support of our sponsors! We distributed 800 backpacks filled with school supplies. Over the past 23 years this event has distributed 15,000 backpacks to Meriden school students!
