🚨FIRST ROUND OF APPRENTICE APPLICATIONS🚨

Apprentice applications and a mechanical aptitude test will be administered next week on the following dates and times:
📌TUESDAY JUNE 2nd from 7am to 12pm
📌WEDNESDAY JUNE 3rd from 12pm to 5pm

Applications MUST BE FILLED OUT IN PERSON at
📍153 Evansville Ave. Meriden, CT

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be 18yrs of age or older by start of the program
- Have a valid driver’s license
- Be able to pass requirements for CDL medical card
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Be able to pass a drug screen test

Please note…you may only complete 1 test and 1 application per calendar year. If you are not able to make the June application dates there will be another round on OCT 6 & 7.

The final week of our 6-week Pre-Apprentice Program is underway! 🚧

Over the past several weeks, this group has put in the work—completing rotations in OSHA & MSHA Safety, Forklift Training, Basic Maintenance, CDL Training, and an Introduction to Earthmoving Equipment.

Now, it’s time for the next step: real-world experience.

This is only the beginning. Over the next 4 years, these future operators will continue building their skills through a combination of on-the-job training and continued education—working toward becoming journey men and women in the field.

We’re proud to be part of their path forward.

Yesterday, Local 478 was excited to attend donation ceremony of a 2025 Volvo Electric L20 Loader to the UCONN College of Engineering.

Getting hands-on experience is a huge part of learning in this industry and we’re excited to be part of it. Local 478 will be working with UCONN’s Construction Engineering and Management course—helping students get familiar with machine operations and the latest innovations in construction equipment, including electric machinery and onboard intelligent systems.

We’re looking forward to building a strong connection between labor, higher education and industry partners.

Week 2 of pre-apprentice training in the books and it was our first week out in the equipment 🚧

This week we began the fundamentals of safety, control and building confidence in the seat along with the importance of cold iron checks and basic maintenance.
