Today, the Kiwanis Club of Meriden and the Meriden Public Library unveiled "Our Magical Snow Day," the newest installation in Kiwanis' StoryWalk at Meriden Linear Trails! The story was written and illustrated by Ms. Kara Jones’ 4th-grade class at John Barry Elementary School and was the winner of our third annual Writing in the Woods Story Writing Contest.

Be sure to visit the Hanover Pond Trail this summer and enjoy this creative story by Meriden students!

Our newest StoryWalk has been installed! Stop by the Hanover Pond Trail on Oregon Road to read "Our Magical Snow Day," the winner of this year's Writing in the Woods Story Writing Contest. The story was written by Kara Jones’ 4th-grade class at John Barry Elementary School!

This Thursday is our Kiwanis Strawberry Shortcake Sale! 🍓 Enjoy delicious, homemade, 16-oz desserts for just $7 each, all while supporting Kiwanis' programs for kids right here in Meriden. Pre-order your desserts at meridenkiwanis.org/strawberry. Walk-ins are welcome at the Polish Legion of American Veterans (193 East Main Street, Meriden) while supplies last!

WEATHER UPDATE: Due to the rain, the Bicycle Safety Day, Helmet Distribution, & Rodeo will end at 12pm!

Today is the big day! Families, bring your kids and their bicycles to Ceppa Field for Kiwanis' FREE Bicycle Safety Day, Helmet Distribution & Rodeo! From 10am-1pm, we will have skill stations to teach kids proper bike handling and valuable safety techniques. We are also offering a FREE bicycle helmet for each child who attends and a FREE refurbished bicycle for each child who does not have their own (while supplies and available sizes last).

Do you have a bike you would like to donate? We will be collecting donations for our partner, Bikes For Kids, who will refurbish them for distribution at future events.

What a fantastic evening at the Kiwanis/Meriden Public Library Citywide Spelling Bee! 📚🐝

We’re so proud of all the 5th- and 6th-grade students who competed in their school spelling bees and in tonight’s Citywide Bee — their preparation, poise, and perseverance were truly impressive.

Congratulations to our 2026 Citywide Spelling Bee Winner, Melissa Kwolek from Washington Middle School, who correctly spelled the word “zealous” to clinch the title! Melissa is our first-ever two-time champion, having also won last year’s Citywide Spelling Bee as a 5th grader at Thomas Ho**er Elementary School.

A big shout-out to this year’s runner-up, Hayden Butler from Lincoln Middle School!

Thank you to our judges, families, Meriden Public Schools, and the Meriden Public Library for helping make this event such a success. Events like this showcase the incredible talent of Meriden’s students!
