Today our president Dr. April Maxwell-Henley had the opportunity to witness our Governor Mikie Sherrill as she announced the Technology Partnership, the awarding of the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Social Media Research Center.

Background: In August, Governor Sherrill signed a three-bill package that established new online protections for New Jersey children and created mechanisms to hold Big Tech accountable for the harmful effects social media has on our youth. One of those bills called for the establishment of a Social Media Research Center at one of New Jersey’s four-year institutions tasked with studying the impact of social media on young people and leveraging its research to support evidence-based protections for New Jersey youth.

Next week is designated Safe Schools Week to draw attention to the continuing problem of school violence and strengthen practices, partnerships, policies and actions to help ensure schools are safe and supportive places. Join our association in marking the week and follow us as we share resources to become part of school safety decision making and advocate for policies and solutions that will save lives and make our schools and communities safer for everyone.

Today, the New Jersey PTA Board of Directors came together for a productive meeting while proudly wearing pink and purple in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month πŸŽ€ and Domestic Violence Awareness Month πŸ’œ.

Together, we stand in support of survivors, honor those we’ve lost, and raise awareness for two important causes.
