Excellent job, girls! 👯‍♀️ They learned all this in just one hour! It was great to see some of them come out of their shell during this session. Thank you so much to Wilson School of Gymnastics and Dance for helping our girls earn their dance badge and for exposing them to the music of the legendary Cheetah Girls!! 🐆🧡🖤

On behalf of Girl Scout Troop 80060, we express our deepest sympathies to the family of Buffi Smith, whose life was tragically and senselessly cut short last week by both domestic violence and gun violence. We were fortunate to have crossed paths with Buffi when she came out to Milky Way Restaurant to support her granddaughter at our cookie booth.

Though we didn't know her well, we know she was the type of person who always showed up for those she loved, and there was no one she loved more than her family. She wasn't the type of relative you only saw at parties and holidays. She was present for all the little moments, too. And now, her family who could always count on "mom" or "grandma" to be there have unfairly had her torn away from them. Her absence in everyday life, in all the things she would have shown up for, is unimaginable and will be felt by those she loved so much.

We can't replace Buffi, but we can show up for her family in this moment. Please help spread the word about the spaghetti dinner and silent auction happening on May 16th. Share the graphic. Get a group together and donate a basket for the silent auction. Troop 80060 will be assembling and donating a basket for the silent auction, and we encourage others to do the same. Local businesses, community groups, individuals, do what you can to show your support for Buffi's children who were so brave, witnessed the horrific act firsthand, and tried so hard to save their mom. Please help them navigate the new reality they have been forced to live without her.

Yesterday, Girl Scout Troop 80060 participated in our very first service unit event! The girls celebrated World Thinking Day with about 50 Girl Scouts from other local troops! World Thinking Day was started 100 years ago in 1926 and honors the global sisterhood shared by Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world. Each year has a theme, and this year's was "Friendship."

Earlier this year, we asked the girls to come pick some countries whose culture, cuisine, and history they'd like to learn more about. After several rounds of voting, they selected China! 🇨🇳 Over the past few meetings, they learned more about China and prepared for their World Thinking Day presentation!

Some of our troop couldn't make it to the event, but we still wanted them to be included, and each girl's drawing of a Giant Panda was on display at our table! Each girl in attendance had their own little passport to fill out as they "traveled" to the various countries represented in the room!

Each troop made swaps – little handmade trinkets to help them remember this fun day and the individual countries they learned about. Each one has a pin for them to attach it to their sashes, vests, or wherever they want to keep them! The girls LOVED all the creative swaps they collected! They were as follows:

🇮🇪 Ireland: Beaded pin with flag colors
🇵🇱 Poland: Little cowbells and Polish flags
🇨🇭 Switzerland: Swiss cheese
🇩🇪 Germany: Pretzels
🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland: Rings in Scottish flag colors
🇪🇸 Spain: Beaded pin with flag colors
🇨🇳 China: Bowls of rice with chopsticks made using bottle caps and toothpicks
🇦🇺 Australia: Koalas and Platypuses (SO CUTE!)

They also got the opportunity to try food from each country! Everything was on the menu including Australian TimTam, Irish beans on toast, pierogi, cheese fondue, rice, churros, pretzels, and of course, good ole American chicken nuggets and mac 'n cheese! Quite a few girls decided to eat their meal using chopstick. They were very committed to the China bit! ☺️

The day ended with making a friendship chain and sharing their hopes for the future. Wishes for everyone to receive love and for an end to war were at the top of our troop's lists. These kids have such good hearts, and as leaders, we are so proud of each and every one of them and so honored to be able to provide them all of the experiences and character-building opportunities that come with being a part of Girl Scouts. 💚

World Thinking Day 2026 is officially in the books! Troop 80060 had a terrific time and enjoyed getting to meet other troops in our service unit. Thank you to all the girls, parents, and leaders that made yesterday possible! We look forward to more fun times with our service unit in the future!

Next weekend is sure to be a blast, too! We'll be heading to Wilson School of Gymnastics and Dance to earn dance and movement badges! 👯‍♀️

It was a GREAT day for selling cookies! 💚🍪 Girls from Troop 80060 held booths at Mercersburg Lions Club and at Snider's Elevator Inc today, and sold EVERY LAST BOX in our inventory!! The girls were so proud of themselves!

Thank you to Mercersburg Lions Club, Snider's Elevator, and every single person who came out today and bought cookies! You're helping build our girls' confidence, showing them real life examples of kindness, and helping them raise money for their troop to have fun, memorable experiences together. It's so much more than just cookies. We appreciate you all!
