MISSION: The purpose of the foundation serves to benefit animals and children/youth and to honor and recognize military veterans & immigrants and their legacies. History: The Sha’nini George Foundation was established in honor of Sha’nini George, an immigrant from Lebanon who was a 3rd class passenger on the Titanic, barely surviving that maiden voyage. Sha'nini was in the second to the last lifeboat to exit the Titanic, the last one on the starboard side. The last lifeboat was on the port side and left only 5 minutes later. Due to the massive confusion, the fact that Sha'nini barely spoke any English at the time, and the extreme listing of the Titanic (where lifeboats would normally have had to travel 70 feet from the deck to the top of the water, Sha'nini’s lifeboat only had to travel 10-15 feet to the water!), made it the last lifeboat for her. Her family founded Joy Cone Company, headquartered in western PA, which is the largest producer of ice cream cones.
