FROM 2023-2025: UPATE ON VENTURE WITH CO-SOLVE:
Temporary housing is a great need in the sectors of Building Construction and of Infrastructure Development (utility, roads, bridges, etc.) because the laborers need housing only for temporary duration of the project. Even smaller and medium-size industrial sector employers do not want to invest in permanent housing colonies on their premises. They also prefer temporary housing solutions that are affordable.
Although Employers may hesitate to take on creating labor
housing, they are more open to consider support to build temporary child-care facility at their worksites, and how to help in bringing the right service agencies to carry out childcare, education, health related programs. Innovations in temporary structure design is greatly needed. The housing sector (professionals and the building products and services market) has had little experience (and uptake) of temporary living structures. The design of the temporary structures require attention to A) innovative building materials that are durable, transportable, affordable, and available in the market. B) Design of the structures that packs in functionality within the small foot-print living space, while being situated within the high-density shared space with other laborers who come from different cultural backgrounds, C) flexible and modular to be suitable for varied sites and uses.
Planned in 2025 are various prototypes - some for temporary child-centric structure, shelter units, common spaces, energy, water etc. They will be at suitable price points that various employers have expressed interest in.
To address the larger goal of workers’ well being, Aajeevika Bureau and SahKaryam Foundation/ Co-Solve partnered to open a children’s activity center, called Fulwadiin 2024. And has reached out to provide medical mobile services to laborers and their families (below).
