This month, we are celebrating individual joining anniversaries that represent a combined 80 years of service to our Merced community.

That’s 80 years of dedication, friendship, leadership, and commitment to improving the lives of women and girls.

We are grateful for every year, every project, and every member who continues to make a difference through Soroptimist International of Merced.

Thank YOU Janey, Teri, Amy, and Sarah!

🎉 Celebrating 89 Years of Soroptimist International of Merced!

On October 2, 1937, Soroptimist International of Merced was officially chartered. At the time, Merced was a small community of about 9,400 residents, and the local newspaper described the charter celebration as:

“…a brilliant ceremony following a banquet at Hotel Tioga. Masses of flowers and greenery, together with the colorful gowns of the women, made a charming setting for the affair.”

Mrs. Florence Zenter stepped forward that evening as the first in a long line of women who would serve as President of SI Merced.

Our 21 founding members represented an impressive variety of professions—including banking, nursing, clothing, jewelry, groceries, cosmetics, music, insurance, automotive, floriculture, and many more.

Eighty-nine years later, that tradition continues.

Today, SI Merced is led by President Kimberly Brown, alongside a board of women whose careers span real estate, the food industry, accounting, business, insurance, property management, education, social work, agriculture, banking, and advocacy.

Different generations. Different professions. The same commitment to making a difference in the lives of women and girls. 💙

Here’s to 89 years of service, friendship, leadership, and women supporting women—and to the years ahead!
