The Society of Freethinkers of UC Merced aims to promote freethinking and secular values on the UC Merced campus and in the Merced community, while working to foster a tolerant and stimulating environment for its members. -------------------------------------
General Meeting: 6:00 - 7:00 pm in COB 110
-------------------------------------
The Society of Freethinkers is a group at UC Merced dedica
ted to providing a community for all non-religious people, and promoting secular values and tolerance. The Society of Freethinkers intends to utilize its resources to advocate freethinking and secularism through various activities. We also provide a supportive social community for everyone and organize volunteering. In essence, we want to provide support to the multitudes to nonreligious students on campus and people in the surrounding city of Merced. Everyone is invited to join the club, meaning theists, atheists, and agnostics as long as you are willing to keep an open mind! The club’s goals do not include: inciting hate, belligerency, forceful attempts at “conversion,” or any forms of violence. Atheists by-and-large are marginalized and seen as “radical” in America, and we want to alter that deplorable stigma. For example, if activism does occur it will be aimed at politicians or candidates who seem to be pushing a particular religion or religious idea on society, regardless of their political affiliations.
