Mentor Cardinal Youth Football

Mentor Cardinal Youth Football MCYFA works in connection with the Mentor Varsity Football and Cheerleading Program. The same would apply to a youth cheerleader.

To provide young athletes an opportunity to play football and cheer in a good moral and ethical environment under the supervision of certified coaches with an emphasis on scholastics and physical fitness throughout our geographical area. MCYFA uses the same terminology, formations, and cheers of the varsity programs to ensure our players' success from youth to middle school through high school. If

a youth football player started when they are 6 years old and continue to play through their senior year of high school, they would have worked within the same offense, skills, drills, terminology, and overall philosophy for nearly 12 years. We are in the Great Lakes Youth Football League (www.glyfl.com). We only compete with teams within GLYFL. We are a "weight limit" and "age" controlled league providing a safe experience for our players. C Division - 6 and 7 years old on June 1, 2024 - 90 lb maximum weight to carry the ball

B Division - 8 and 9 years old on June 1, 2024 - 150 max weight / 125 max weight to carry the ball

A Division - 10 to 12 years old on June 1, 2024 - 170 max weight / 145 max weight to carry the ball

12 Year Old's must not turn 13 before November 1
9 Year Old's wanting to play in "A" Division must be 10 before August 1st. A and B Divisions are 11 on 11 tackle football. C Division is 7 on 7 tackle football. Cheerleading is for ages 5-12 years old. 5 year old's must be attending Kindergarten. Cheerleaders will be paired with their siblings to include football players. All necessary equipment and uniforms are provided to the players by MCYFA. Home games will be at Mentor High School Football Stadium. Practice locations will be at a field location within Mentor Schools. All teams will start with 1 head coach / player and 1 assistant coach and player. All other players will be drafted according to GLYFL rules. Each team will be a maximum of 6 coaches, 1 photographer, 2 water boys under the age of 14
Every coach will be USA Football certified and have successfully passed a background check.

We’ve got a full weekend of Mentor Cardinals football ahead of us, with all seven of our teams hitting the road Saturday and Sunday.

Week 1 is in the books!

A lot of great football this weekend from all of our Mentor Cardinals teams. Our kids competed hard, represented Mentor well, and gave us plenty to be proud of.

Thank you to all of our coaches, parents, volunteers, and families who helped make the first weekend of the regular season a success. We appreciate everyone who came out and supported our players!

Now it’s back to work and on to Week 2.

🏈 Week 1 is here!

It’s been a long summer of practices, hard work and getting ready for this weekend. Now it’s finally time to play some football!

Before we kick off our season, we’ll be at Mentor High School tonight for Youth Night as the Cardinals take on Olmsted Falls. Our youth players will get to be down on the field before the game and create a tunnel for the varsity players as they run out.

It’s always a great night for our kids and a chance for them to see where all of their hard work can take them someday.

Then tomorrow morning, it’s our turn! We have six teams playing at Mentor High School on Saturday, followed by Mentor Black traveling to Riverside on Sunday.

Good luck to all of our players and coaches this weekend. Have fun, play hard and represent Mentor!

We’re down to less than two weeks to sell our 30 Days of Gift Cards tickets!

Tickets are $20, and we’ll have 2 winners every day in September with over $4,000 in prizes up for grabs.

If you’re planning on buying one, don’t wait too long! Reach out to any Mentor Cardinals Youth Football player or family and they can get you a ticket.

We will be selling tickets this Friday at the tailgate event for the varsity game vs Olmsted Falls.

This is our biggest fundraisers of the year, and the money raised goes right back into our program to help with equipment, field costs, coaching and everything else that goes into giving our kids a great football season.

And even if you can’t buy a ticket, sharing this post helps us out a ton.
