🐾 Honoring K-9 Zeke. Continuing the Mission.

The VFR Foundation and our Howling Heroes program are proud to announce that, in honor of Middleburg Heights Police K-9 Zeke, we will be donating a new K-9 officer to the Middleburg Heights Police Department to continue the partnership with Zeke’s handler, Police Officer Joshua Porter.

Zeke’s unexpected passing is a tremendous loss for Officer Porter, the department, and the community. Together, Zeke and Officer Porter were a remarkable team and true rockstars in the community, making a lasting impact through their service and dedication.

Following the same commitment demonstrated when we helped provide K-9 Chinook to the Euclid Police Department, we are honored to help ensure this important partnership continues.

❤️ This is what your support makes possible. Every donation to the VFR Foundation helps us support the veterans, first responders, and K-9 officers who serve and protect our communities.

Please join us in honoring Zeke’s legacy and supporting Officer Porter and the Middleburg Heights Police Department as they begin this next chapter.

MEET HECTER: A HERO BEYOND THE BADGE

Meet Hecter, a retired dual-purpose patrol K-9 who served alongside Officer Mitchell Lorig. During nearly six years of service, this dedicated German Shepherd helped keep Ohio communities safe, contributing to significant narcotics and currency seizures.

But Hecter wasn't just a hardworking K-9 on duty. He also had a special gift for connecting with people, welcoming children and community members with the gentle, loving personality that made him so much more than a working dog.

Now, through the VFR Foundation's Howling Heroes program, we continue to recognize the extraordinary service of K-9s like Hecter.

Because when their working days are over, their service should never be forgotten. ❤️🐕

🐾🇺🇸 Honoring the Heroes Who Never Stop Serving.

The VFR Foundation’s Howling Heroes K-9 Memorial Award honors the extraordinary K-9 partners who gave their all in service to their handlers and communities.

Every detail of this memorial tells a story:

🐺 The Wolf: In the upper left corner, the wolf represents where it all began—the ancestor of the loyal K-9 partners who stand beside us today.

🦴 The Collar: Each memorial features the fallen K-9’s name, with the handler’s name beneath it—a lasting tribute to a bond built on trust, loyalty, and service.

🕊️ End of Watch: The date in the lower right corner marks the day the K-9 passed away, forever recognizing their final day of service.

These K-9s were more than working dogs. They were partners, protectors, and family. Their courage and sacrifice deserve to be remembered.

❤️ Their service may end, but their legacy lives on.

Another HOME RUN for our First Responders!

The VFR Foundation is proud to donate a thermal imaging camera to East Cleveland Fire Marshal and arson investigator Thomas Buth and his K9 partner, Zorro!

When investigating fires, Zorro helps detect accelerants and chemicals, but lingering hot spots can put his paws at risk. This thermal imager allows Fire Marshal Buth to identify dangerous areas and safely guide Zorro around them while conducting investigations.

❤️ Your donations make a difference! Thanks to your generosity, VFR can provide critical equipment that protects the men, women, and K9s who serve our communities.

Help us continue supporting those who protect us!

❤️🐾 THEIR PAWS MAY BE GONE, BUT THEIR LEGACY LIVES ON.

Every working K-9 leaves behind a story of courage, loyalty, sacrifice, and unconditional service.

The VFR Foundation created the Howling Heroes K-9 Memorial Award to ensure those stories are never forgotten.

The complimentary memorial includes a custom engraved display collar honoring the K-9, their handler, their agency, and their End of Watch.

For the partners who stood beside them every step of the way, this is more than a collar.

It’s a lasting reminder of a hero who will never be forgotten.

🐕 THEY SPENT THEIR CAREERS PROTECTING US. NOW IT’S OUR TURN TO PROTECT THEM.

Retirement shouldn't mean a retired K-9 has to go without the veterinary care they need.

Through the VFR Foundation’s Howling Heroes K-9 Guardian Veterinary Grant Program, eligible retired law enforcement, fire service, and military K-9s can receive up to $500 annually toward qualifying veterinary expenses.

If you have a retired K-9 hero in your life, don’t wait to see if you qualify.

🐾 THEY GAVE EVERYTHING. LET’S GIVE SOMETHING BACK.

For years, working K-9s stand beside their handlers, walk into dangerous situations, protect our communities, and put themselves between others and harm.

When their working days are over, they still deserve our support.

Your donation to Howling Heroes helps the VFR Foundation provide veterinary assistance and support for retired police, fire, and military K-9s.

Every contribution helps us care for the dogs who spent their lives caring for us. 🇺🇸🐕
