What a sweet surprise today to see the pathway fun by local artists and friends of MERF that incorporated the pathway’s cracks and grass growth into great caricatures. What should we name them? Love that the community sees the beauty and fun in tufts of grass on the walkway. Thank you Carol and Kenna for creating fun treats for us all to enjoy on MERF’s walking track.

A wonderful community project in 2020 provided by Community Foundation of Northeast Alabama’s 💡 Big Idea grant celebrating CFNEA’s 20th anniversary! Little River Arts council and MERF worked together to win this wonderful grant.

Ahhh, memories… That time my son and I painted pickets for the rainbow fence in front of the walking track. If you walk the fence there you can spot both of these!

The walking track is a lovely gem of Mentone, hidden in plain sight in front of the MERF: Mentone Educational Resources Foundation in Mentone, Alabama house. In order to get there, you pull in as if you’re parking at the Moon Lake Library but then you go up the gravel driveway and park near the house that’s back there. There’s a shade garden, a secret hidey-hole garden in a giant bush, and some large musical instruments children can play along the path which wraps around behind the merf house near the Shigley Amphitheater. It’s beautiful back there! While you’re walking or lounging, you can visit us at The Shops at Moon Lake Village!

Come join the fun this Saturday, September 3rd. MERF will be on the porch selling "Leave Me in Mentone" merch to benefit the varied programs of MERF

This Saturday!
One of the main attractions of Follow Your Art is a return of last year’s popular Sidewalk Chalk Art Contest. The contest is open to all ages, individuals or groups, interested in creating works of art along the track.
Little River Arts Council will provide the chalk or participants can bring their own. Chalk artists should arrive at 9 AM on Saturday morning, so that their creations are completed or nearly completed when visitors start to arrive at 10.

Exciting fun at the library!

Summer Reading Program is back at Moon Lake Library, and we are WILD ABOUT READING! Each Saturday in June and July (except for July 2), we'll host special programs for kids in the community, as well as our young visitors.

Ages 3-7 will meet at 10:30 and Ages 8-13 will meet at 11:30. We'll be taking a deep dive into the natural world, discovering some of the science behind the beauty that surrounds us. We hope you'll bring your children and grandchildren to all our summer reading programs.

Got teens interested in volunteering with Wild About Reading? We'd love to have teen volunteers, so email [email protected], if you or your teenager are interested.

Perfect weather to enjoy a stroll on the walking track in front of the MERF house this weekend! Grandparents know the right place to bring their cuties when in Mentone.
