🌲 🎉We’re proud to share that a 132-acre forest located a few miles south of Ashland on the White River has been protected! Known locally as the Maxwell Forest, the property was formerly owned by Northland College. Students and faculty gathered for decades among the majestic pines to engage in environmental learning, research, and outdoor education. This project not only conserves important wildlife habitat and water resources, but also carries forward Northland College's environmental legacy.
Over the past year, Landmark staff has been negotiating with Northland College’s Board of Trustees while securing support from Ashland County, Bayfield County, the local townships, and funding partners. Landmark transferred the property to Bayfield County, with the goal that it will become part of the state’s fishery area.
