Hello BOLD STEPS Family! Happy International Day of Girls and Women in STEM!

STEPS is so thankful for all the STEM women leaders, professionals and young girls excited about their possibilities. Enjoy today to celebrate YOU!

It is with a heavy heart that we make today's announcement. The STEPS for Girls and BOLD STEPS programs will not be offered this summer (2020). A challenge has been filed with the federal Office of Civil Rights because of the single-sex nature of the camp, leading to the decision to put STEPS on hold for 2020. If we are able to offer STEPS in the summer of 2021, we will open the program to girls entering both 7th grade (our usual age group) and 8th grade (those girls who are unable to attend this summer). The BOLD STEPS program would continue with the re-starting of STEPS. Please check our website and page for updates as they become available.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of our program. Your spirit, generosity, and participation have been greatly appreciated and the STEPS office is thankful for our very extensive STEPS family of campers, staff, volunteers and donors.

As a way to celebrate the program and all the good it has done, we will soon be starting the new feature on our page - STEPS Alumni Spotlights. If you haven't already done so, and you know of a STEPS Alumni (or are one yourself!), please consider a nomination. The form is quick and easy and can be found at the following link: https://uwstout.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0SP8yZuaIJzJ9mR.

We are excited to highlight our alumni and hope you enjoy this feature.

Happy Holidays from STEPS! This time of year always brings a smile to my face as I think of the wonderful people in my life and the amazing work I get to do. The STEPS family is part of those smiles. Thanks to all our camp families for sharing your wonderful daughters with us. Thanks to all the camp staff for your commitment to our work. Thanks to all the camp volunteers for your inspiration to our girls. Thanks to UW Stout for hosting this amazing program. And thanks to our donors - without your support this program would never be possible.

Starting this January - the STEPS and BOLD STEPS Facebook and LinkedIn Pages will be showcasing our alumni with the Alumni Spotlight Series! If you haven't had a chance to fill out the Alumni Survey - please do. We want to inspire the next generation with your stories. Here's the link to nominate yourself or others: https://uwstout.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_0SP8yZuaIJzJ9mR

I am also excited to release the Camp 2019 Infographic highlighting the program this last summer. It will warm your heart during these cold winter months. Enjoy!

STEPS Camp at UW-Stout and BOLD STEPS at UW Stout will soon be starting a new Facebook feature "STEPS Spotlight on Alumni". We are so excited to share the stories of our STEPS alumni and further show the impact of STEPS! Research shows that role models are one of the biggest impacts on getting girls interested in STEM. STEPS Spotlight on Alumni will help us highlight amazing role models! Let's join together and use the amazing work of our alumni to have that impact!

If you are a STEPS alumni or know someone who is - please consider submitting a nomination! We would love to connect with you and others! Click the following link to submit your nomination. We will reach out to the alumni with a link and details on how to complete the Spotlight Form. The nomination form (link below) is very simple and short, so nominate someone today!

I came across this great way to think about Leadership! BOLD STEPS alumni - keep striving to do the right thing.

This past Tuesday I had the opportunity to share the BOLD STEPS story with the women of 100 Women Who Care Eau Claire. What an amazing group in our community! They are doing so much good and it was such a pleasure talking with them about STEPS and BOLD STEPS. Thank you 100 Women Who Care Eau Claire for allowing me to come and talk about STEPS!

BOLD STEPS 2019 Here we come!!! Nearly just a week away!

The STEPS and BOLD STEPS program would like to say THANKS to McNally Industries, LLC for your long-term support of STEPS for Girls! You are making a huge difference!

I am also excited to introduce you to another member of our Lead Team. Meghan Walters is our Technical Director (she's the one that makes sure all the bug bots work and gets everything set up for our campers to create their bug bots) and she will also be an assistant facilitator with BOLD STEPS. We are so thankful for her undying support of STEPS - she has been a part of the program for many, many years, and I don't think we could function without her!!! Here's Meghan...

" I am a Technology Teacher at Colby School District for the past four years. I teach graphics, multi-media, middle school and now this upcoming year and I am teaching two sections of an all girl’s class covering topics like woods, welding, metals, and automotive! I have a very energetic one-year-old puppy named Cali who was rescued from Texas. I love to read, hunt, spend time with family & friends, sigh see, and anything to relax.

I am super excited to be at STEPS for my 16th year!!!! I don’t know where I would be if it wasn’t for all the amazing people at STEPS throughout these years! The current and future campers are in great hands and will have a spectacular experience doing hands-on activities and meeting new friends!"

We are less than 2 weeks away from the start of BOLD STEPS! The team is so excited!

Today we would like to recognize 3M.Company for their long-standing support of the STEPS program. Not only have they continually provide financial support for many years, but 3M is always willing to share their expertise with our campers through volunteers in the classroom, as tour chaperones and industry leaders. THANK YOU 3M for all you do!

We would also like to introduce another member of the STEPS Lead Team! Kylie Anderson is joining the lead team this year as the Camp Assistant. Kylie has a long history of being a part of STEPS and we are so excited for her to move into this role. Here's Kylie:

"I’m a graduate student at UW-Stout pursuing School Counseling. I just finished my Bachelor’s in Psychology this Spring. I work for University Housing on Stout’s campus as a Graduate Assistant in Red Cedar! My favorite hobby is reading for fun, but I also enjoy cycling, watching movies, and writing.

I’m excited to continue participating in STEPS because it will be my seventh summer with the camp! I love returning each year as it feels like home."
