Brooke Richartz Foundation

Brooke Richartz Foundation We're dedicated to finding the resources for people, and families, to reach their full potential. Brooke's motto was, "Do your best and have fun."

The Brooke Richartz Foundation Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit was established in September 2022 by Brooke’s husband
Nathan Richartz and friend Karen Hatfield McCalla was established to carry out the vision outlined by Brooke Richartz who passed away in 2022 from ovarian cancer. Throughout her life, Brooke acted as a mentor for students of all ages and professionals. She saw a need as she was voluntee

ring in schools for students to obtain the tools, mentors and resources necessary to develop plans to reach their career goals. Before she passed, Brooke asked that a foundation be created to assist students with career planning as well as help youth and families who are dealing with a family member with cancer. Brooke lived up to that motto and her foundation supports her philosophy so others can do their best and have fun while trying to reach their goals. Brooke was passionate about bringing parents and coaches back to reality for what sports are about, “the skills athletes learn and what they learn about themselves as they play is most important”. I had to share this story as it shows what this coach cares about most. The athlete, not the finish line.

At the World Championships in Budapest, USA’s swimmer Anita Alvarez sank to the bottom of the pool unconscious. This is a shallow water blackout. It happens often in Special Operations Training.

Her COACH Andrea Fuentes looking across the deck, noticed her swimmer was under for way too long, immediately dove into the drink after her, fully dressed, and pulled her to safety.

This is what a real coach looks like.

There were lifeguards at the side of the pool but only her coach dove in. Some coaches don’t do it for money or recognition. They do it for the love of sport and the love of their athlete.
