On September 29, the inaugural Project K: Legacy Grant in memory of Dr. Kanishka Ratnayaka was presented to Dr. Jenny Zablah at the Children's Hospital Colorado. Dr. Zablah will be applying virtual reality (VR) applications for patients with congenital heart disease.

Dr. Kanishka Ratnayaka's infectious desire to "do good" in the world continues to inspire so many that we were able to fully fund Dr. Zablah's groundbreaking, state-of-the-art research!

Continued Projects in Global Surgery Program
Our WCI Clinical Advisory Board is continuing to develop program materials in the following areas to expand training and information sharing globally. In particular, we've have had some exciting updates with our Video Training Pilot Program.

Over the past year, your donations have allowed us to film skilled Malagasy surgeons performing 13 common surgeries. Soon, junior surgeons across the country will have access to a database of videos, edited for learning purposes, to help guide their work and improve patient outcomes.

We hope you will considering continuing your support to our mission of...

Helping children play harder and live longer.

5 billion people lack access to safe, affordable surgical and anesthesia care when needed. Madagascar is one the poorest countries in the world. The access to safe, timely and essential surgery is lacking due to poor infrastructure, inadequate facilities, lack of supplies and paucity of healthcare workers.

In collaboration with Operation Smile, we are designing and developing the program to increase the capacity to deliver safe and essential surgical care in Madagascar.

“Surgery is an indivisible, indispensable part of health care.”
Jim Yong Kim, American physician and anthropologist, 12th president of the World Bank.

The Lancet Commission’s report - Global Surgery 2030 - clearly articulates the need for safe and essential surgery in developing countries. Surgical conditions account for 28-32% of overall global burden of disease.

Project Global Surgery was created in response to this clinical problem.
